The Hidden

Should we out them, or let them remain in the dark?

If you're referring to your balls, I'd have to say

WHY NOT????

Feet?

IT'S TIME!!! Like your balls, it's time to air those puppies OUT!!!!

On the other hand, if its Lurkers you're referring to....

WHERE? There are thousands of them!!!!

He kept it hid And so did she.

Then passed right by- And never knew.”

LMAO, and I do.... except set-up and tear down.
On the other hand, if its Lurkers you're referring to....

WHERE? There are thousands of them!!!!
Down on the bottom it shows Registered "us", Hidden "which are Registered, but???? why are they hidden?" and the lurkers which are guests.

Always enjoy it when I can figure another "Hidden" out.

I've never paid much attention to that. Sort of like socks. I don't understand them either. Aren't there websites more suited to those that want to play games and lurk in the shadows? I wonder why the hidden feature was ever developed for these boards anyway?

yeah, it's sort of fun......I've figured a few, or, the ones who make a sock, because they decide to "leave" here, but still want to watch what goes on.

They are ashamed of their participation in this ignominious institution.

And well should they be.

I'm one of the hidden and have been for years.
DVD Burner, Badger / Miss Iso, and Bob are also ones who are hidden.
Beyond that...I've long wondered who else is using the hidden option. And I hope they allow it on the new board whenever it rolls out.

No dirty socks here.

I'm hidden, but only because I work odd hours and would often fall asleep at strange hours and forget to sign out (sometimes for days! kinda' embarrassing)

Nothing personal and I'm staying hidden for now, heh heh heh.

Strange reason. If I'm at my desktop, I could be logged in here for hours. I don't get the logic.

Within the first weeks of signing up on eplaya, 98% of the posters whom I had good reason to communicate with frequently, all requested we use personal emails because eplaya is too slow.

I'm looking forward to the upgrade in a couple of weeks (June, 2?th)

Totally unrelated but, perhaps I'll use more of the features and become 'unhiden' after the upgrades. Stay tuned.

I prefer the PMs here to my personal emails for an added layer of "distance" between myself and god-knows-who might email me. Sure, they can't see the address... until there is a reply. Then they have it forever and you have to deploy the spam filters. I don't check my dummy addy enough to make it useful, I forget I switched to it here. I am seriously hoping for moderators to be given B-man emails addies for that added layer of insulation.

There's me, and there's moderator me, and I dislike it when the two cross-pollinate in real life.

If they don't, you could just as easily open a gmail or yahoo account to use for moderating business, no?

I already have, but do not want to have to check my emails for eplaya stuff. The correct BMORG folks have my main email for off the board things, which is fine. I don't want to interact with eplayans via email about eplaya stuff. I shouldn't have to do that, I choose not to do that. As for communications in other venues, where I can choose my friends selectively, that's my choice also.

I've never really noticed that there are stats on how many people are logged on, hidden, guest- or I've noticed and forgot all about it.
Its crazy how many guests there are!
Two big hugs and 2 ice cold beers, to any guest that signs up and makes there first post in this thread!

I often forget that I have firefox set up so that if I close a tab but leave the window open I stay logged in.
Got home one day hopped on my home computer and before I logged in, realized it said I was already logged in. Kinda worried me that my account had been hacked.

Also, could someone explain to me the term 'sock' I don't get it? And the difference between a Sock and Troll?

Google it! (just kidding) someone else may be able to articulate what they are better than I, but here goes:

Sock or sock puppet is an additonal account(s) used to post without revealing who the F they are. Dirty socks suck, seems they are borderline trolls. Clean socks can be hilarious, informative, brilliant, helpful and so forth.

I miss the clean socks of late! Perhaps socks are a TOS violation? Not sure but I still miss the really, really brilliant one(s)

For what it's worth, I have no socks.

I think Trolls are attention whores and shit disturbers. They could also be a 'dirty' sock I suppose. Die trolls, die.

Yeah I probably should have googled it! (damn it)

Moonrise, thank you for the clarification!

I wonder why the term sock? (should I google it? lol) To me Proxy would be a more fitting term.
I thought Sock meant that the person was old, smelly, and replaceable. Or that a persons account got so screwed up instead of salvaging it they started a new one.
like that email you use for porn, with a fake name, that gets 10,000 porn spams a day

OK, my original guess at the definition of Troll was pretty close.

Some of you have referenced remaining hidden as an "option".

Is it one you choose, or is it just what happens by default when you don't sign in.

Because I always just thought that not signing in made you a GUEST, so never really understood where the hidden came from at all, and just always imagined them wearing one of my inivisibility hats. (Not a good look, people. You might want to think twice about that! You all look kind of pasty and weird and very uncomfortable)

I am constantly forgetting I signed in. My home computer apparently signs me out after a certain number of hours of inactivity, but my work computer doesn't appear to have that function (unless it's longer than 8 hours....)

I HAVE to sign in since having discovered the "View Posts Since Last Visit" function. I miss it when it's not there.

"Sock" is short for "sockpuppet", because a person wearing a second identity is similar to a puppeteer. :D

Yup , that's the correct definition, but you are both correct, as sock puppets tend to be old, smelly and replaceable.
