I recently discovered this neat little screen capture utility called Faststone capture. The beauty of it is you can use it to "scroll" and it will capture full pages of forums, I ended up with one file per page of a thread (not perfect but better than one file per "screen" capture). You can have it generate a file in any number of formats (I found .PDF very useful). It's shareware but it does have a fill featured demo period (I forgot how long it was).

I have no affiliation; just thought it was a neat little tool (ergo I registered my copy).

Edit: Afterthought - I'm sure one could find a utility to merge .PDFs which opens up the posibility of one file per multiple page thread, hell if you're enterprising (read bat-shit loco) one could probably replicate a mini-ePlaya for personal use on their HD.

Even if all the data is lost, we'll all get over it and move forward. It won't take long to get the relevant info reposted. As for the rest, should it be lost, such is life.

That being said, chances of not losing data during upgrades is increased by doing them in a timely manner as they are released by the community or manufacturer. It's a lot harder to have to upgrade a system when several incremental upgrades have been missed.

Whatever happens, happens. I, for one, am not going to worry about it.

There were one or two iterations of the eplaya running on Web Crossing software between 1998 & 2003.

Curious why "beta" is used for something intended to be released in a week or two.

I don't know how apt you are with Power Point. But it acts very much the same. Though, you can create a slide as big as you want, then drop a bunch of screen shots all onto the same slide.

Another option is to do a File, 'save page as', then go with "Web Page, Complete" as the file type. For Fire Fox

For Internet explorer, I think, the only difference is 'save as' instead of 'save page as'. Also, make sure you go with the web page complete. It takes more memory than the 'archive' file type, but I always have trouble reloading the archive file types.

Ya, there would be a tinge of yearning over the lost nostalgia, but after that...

Maybe they should just wait and do it while we're all at the burn. Then we could all be pleasantly (or not) surprised when we return to relate our adventures.

I'm not that up on open source, but aren't there usually tons of free or even reasonably priced themes for these sorts of out of the box solutions? I mean, there's not a lot of customization really necessary based on the seemingly modest implementation of bells and whistles here to date.

I'm wondering what the cost in electricity is. I think that a simple rule on the order of "any thread without a post in a year with less than 5 posts goes", would be useful.
