A lot has changed since I first posted here, so that's the reason for a new thread. At first my Dream was to build a swimming pool filled with money, an oasis which wouldn't quench your thirst and that will still happen, but for various reasons not this year but in 2012.

One of the main reasons is that the support project - the Exchanghibition Bank has grown into a very interesting separate project and definitely deserves to stand on its own at the same time paving the way for the pool to really make an impact in the future. I also feel it's becoming a very important project in times when governments pay lots of money to keep banks alive, but are cutting drastically in budgets for the arts to make people aware of the value(s) of Art and Money.

So the Exchanghibition Bank will be coming to the Playa and our bankers in their (overall)suits and ties will offer you the chance to become rich...... Of course we can't exchange real money, so we will gift you money in exchange for you signing a 'Spiritual-Karma-laundering' contract and are planning to pop-up at various locations on the Playa throughout the week.

(we did offer the opportunity to people to get rid off their Euros in the Main Hall of the Central Station in Amsterdam a little while ago though:

After the initial disappointment of not getting funding from Burning Man I was in full gear again, the idea changed, Burning Man also supported it via their JRS newsletter and a few times via their Facebook page and though it's still a difficult journey all was going well so I submitted the project to Kickstarter for the next step in making this Dream become a Reality, but guess what:

Has Kickstarter ever done this before???? Refuse a Burning Man project???? Because they think it doesn't 'fit'????

I am really sad and devastated and angry now so won't comment because I will say all the wrong things, which I might regret tomorrow, so I guess I will get drunk and try to get a good nights sleep with no nightmares and sweating.

If anyone from the community has any ideas or suggestions I would appreciate them very much :-)

That is fucking bull shit!!!!!!

I have seen some really shitty projects on Kickstarter, and they get funded!

Here is my only thought,
Kickstarter is sorta for art and community works type stuff. They may have viewed your idea as more of an 'experiment' into currency value and perceived value.
-Though, I think even that is bull shit!

I'm really sorry that they sent you some sort of bullocks letter!

I guess they're thinking it's a bit too edgy? Or maybe you're trying to game the system? I wonder if you can appeal?

Sorry to hear this but know that you still have A LOT of support even if the Kickstarter people don't get it.

I will try to look at other options. The BM org have sent Kickstarter an email to say that they support this project and I might try to re-apply if I can find out what the problem is, but for now I do hope that people who like this project and want to support it and would in return like to own some of those banknotes to spend or frame or gift to friends or burn or ..........., will exchange their dollars and euros via http://www.spendyourart.com !

I will also look at Indiegogo. I think it's less effective but BM told me that they could embed the Indiegogo widget on their support page so it might be an option if Kickstarter won't work out.

But as said for now I at least still have the option of offering people the possibility to exchange some cash for our banknotes and can try to earn the money for the project by printing my own money, which of course is adding some interesting layers to the project

Looking positively towards the future instead of looking back!

I tried very hard to spend some of my real money on your hyperreal money but the tech seems bitchy. I put the E30 package (8 mil, 3 0's) in the cart and went to checkout. Twice. Poop!
Said I had nothing in mah cart.

This coming Thursday the 16th of June at 6pm I will officially present the very first Infinite Banknote, number EB-1-0000001, to Larry Harvey in the Magna Plaza Shopping Center in Amsterdam.

While a shopping center might, at first glance, seem a strange place to celebrate non-monetary forms of exchange, for the month of June a collective of artists, brought together by the Eddie the Eagle Museum, have taken over several empty stores in Magna Plaza to create the Eddie the Eagle Shopping Centre. This exciting post-modern shopping experience will allow you to exchange experiences, rather than money.

The Temple of Transition is using Indiegogo for its current round of fundraising. We're doing okay, but we do need funding for more lumber and nails. The cool thing is that there is no real waiting to access the funds. You don't have to wait until the end of the fundraiser to get the money nor do you have to risk not being funded at all like those other Starter guys.

Could be a solid option for you to check out.

It looks like we'll be using Indiegogo. Kickstarter is just too much of a hassle being a foreigner. It's a little bit unfortunate, because it seems Kickstarter can really give projects a big push in the last week of a fundraising campaign, but at least with Indiegogo you don't have to wait till the end of the fundraiser and you get it for sure and I hope the Burning Man community will understand why we have to use it instead of Kickstarter. More news very soon!!

Of course those who wish to already now support the project can continue to exchange their dollars, which are being used to buy weapons, make rich bankers even richer and make little kids work in sweatshops, for our banknotes, which only support art at http://www.spendyourart.com
