Wassup everyone!!! Heard about BM last year and after doing a lot of reading, this sounds like something I cannot miss. Logistics prevent me from going this year but 2012 is going to be the virgin year for me. I'm already planning for it and will probably be going solo as my wife does NOT camp and I can't afford a motorhome. I have lots of camping experience and as a matter of fact, I have camped on the Playa before, just not during BM. I'll probably not do anything special with my camp but plan to help anybody I can with setting up their camp. I'm not very creative but I am strong and can pull my weight easily.

Hi TT120. You sound like you'll do fine.

Maybe your creativity isn't shiny and distracting, but a problem-solving version that will really help make the day of someone less skilled at setting up.

Thanks for the welcome! I'm pretty sure I'll be able to find something to help with. I'm good at problem solving and can fly by the seat of my pants if neccessary. The lamplighters seems like something I'd like to do as well, something about the robes I think...heh. I'll be well prepared and probably have WAY more food and water than I'll need.

Costumes are going to be one of the more difficult issues for me. As I said, I'm not very creative so I'll probably look like a tourist most of the time. I'm not that worried though, I don't think anybody cares what I look like...

It's true, no one will care what you'll look like, and plenty of people emphasize function over fashion. However, if there's anything you ever wanted to wear . . . wear it. (Nothing that would fray or drop bits or pieces, and no feathers, but otherwise.) It's fun to have at least one silly outfit, even just a goofy hat for Burn night, but that's just if you would enjoy it. If you don't care, & that's okay too, loose clothes (especially on the bottom) are most comfortable, so you will see a lot of skirts, kilts, sarongs, billowing pants & robes; all these items on all genders.

A brimmed hat, good goggles, sunglasses, protective comfortable footwear, a backpack or messenger bag, a packable lightweight layer like a silk thermal or a flannel, & a warm coat for night are perhaps the most helpful items.

It's also smart to have as many clean pairs of socks and underwear as possible.

TT120, I'm sure you've seen the 2nd and 3rd Mad Max movies?
Those sorta costumes are great because they are functional, and often only require thrift store hunting and possibly cutting/tearing. But not much sewing and matching and stuff.

I'm with you, terrible craft skills! So most of my out fits/costumes are created from stopping by thrift stores, and Army Surplus stores<---My favorite store in Denver. Buy a funky hat here, crazy shirt there, goofy pants someplace. Come August, I have a whole tub full of weird shit, then I just pick and choose.

Another idea, is buy some of the 7-12ft EL wire kits- attaching EL wire to anything makes it fun!
