Politics and Burning Man don't mix
So long as the outlines of the ePlaya don't forbit political talk then who has the right to say we shouldn't talk about it. There are times when I go to a thread and start reading political stuff and don't wanna hear it so ya know what I do.....go to another thread.
Just like any media it is each individuals choice as to what they would like to dsicuss and put forth (unless forbidden in the guidelines) and just as much each ones right to read, write or ignore it all together.

Looks like STSC has been mislead. Bush & co will never take Mr. Moore to court. That would get Bush & co. in very big trouble.
I would enjoy seeing Bush & co. try, after all they are'nt too bright and it would make a great laugh.
I love laughing. Do you enjoy laughing?

You are watching too much TV.
Maybe you all should take a look at SpinSanity.com and see how accurate M. Moore has been in his past writtings and productions...you can also look at Bush's record and any political figure on there and see a truely unbiased opinion....ah but those who embrace such a messiah can see no wrong in him no mattter what the truth says. Oh and by the way, just so you don't think I am a right wing fanatic, I am totally againt Bush and his boys but none the less I much more enjoy seeing the truth put forth then one sides zealots (from any side) make unfounded comments.

Dazed and Confused so what's new!
I don't think he can be sued, because he has used his info from quotes from other sources and placed them into a documentary form. Therefore protected under the Bill of Rights "freedom of speech". Same reason the Clinton's didn't sue every book written by the conservative right, But Ashcrotch working on that part right as we post. Hehehehe!

That's a good point stuart! In fact, the president has no right of lawyer confidentuality which has gotten him into a bit of trouble with the Iraqi Tortured investigation. But, the family and their supporters can try to sue him, but I hear they are going after one of the sources used in the movies who's quotes have been taken from the authors book!stuart wrote:can't see it happening. It's a trap you see. If they do, then the burden of proof is on them. Bush and Co. have to show, in an open court, that the things he is saying a false. They can't afford that risk. They could and would have a good case against him

In a congressional hearing anyone especially the president and his lawyer can be question. Recently condo-leasesor Rice-cakes was guestion even though the White said that would violate the confidentuality of presidential advisor's rights. So too can his lawyer be ask to appear.Simply Joel wrote:Apollonaris Zeus wrote:In fact, the president has no right of lawyer confidentuality...

If fact it was george and ashcroft that wish to abolish for ordinary citizen much like they have for domestic terrorists with citizenship.

Well now that the current Afterburn has been published today, some further statistics to back TP's claims. (need to keep things in proper perspectives.)technopatra wrote:
Burners are more politically oriented than the average American
We polled participants after last year's event, and in the coming-soon 2003 AfterBurn Report, you will see that the average Burner is more politically active and votes more frequestly that the average American. This would indicate there is a wide base for political interest, and therefore discussion.
Seems Politics and Burningman do mix. Or maybe Burningman is mixed into the politics and will make the diffrence.

if they haven't taken him to court its because they would not have a case in a documentary such as all the other conspiracy videos, movies and other articles written. Free speech is the strongest constitutional right!

Q: Thank you, sir. I would have a question for Mr. Bush. Once, President Kennedy said, "Everyone has two countries, their own, and France." And why is it that your policy tends to be pushing your country and France to divorce?
Second point, some in public opinion have accused you of state terrorism, and do you not believe that what has happened in Abu Ghraib has put you in the same basket, as it were, of Saddam Hussein, especially in the eyes of an international tribunal, and especially in light of the unfound weapons of mass destruction?
PRESIDENT BUSH: To paraphrase President Kennedy, there's America, and then there's Texas.
Can anyone explain to me what "there's America, and then there's Texas" means?
Please!

Oh, and lets not forget the rest of the answer in order that it may make more sense. maybe things can be explained a little bit better:
We have great relations with France. We work closely with the French government on a lot of issues. I just laid out a lot of the issues that we're working together on, as did the President. We're working to stop proliferation, we're working in Haiti, we're working on the continent of Africa. We're working to feed the hungry. We're working to make sure that the pandemic of AIDS gets — the people get the help they need to arrest the pandemic of AIDS in Africa. No, there are a lot of issues we work on.
As for the prison abuse issue, I am — I was humiliated, as was most of my country. Those soldiers didn't reflect the character of the American people.
They didn't — they stained our honor. And the world will see a full investigation of those — of that humiliation, which will stand in stark contrast to what takes place in states run by tyrants.G.W.B. wrote:These kinds of abuses do not happen in America.....well there is Texas. Yeee haw!
And there will be a full investigation in a transparent way. And those that violated rules will be held to account.G.W.B. wrote:Bush the dictator:
"You don't get everything you want. A dictatorship would be a lot easier." Describing what it's like to be governor of Texas.
(Governing Magazine 7/98. )
-- From Paul Begala's "Is Our Children Learning?"
"I told all four that there are going to be some times where we don't agree with each other, but that's OK. If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator," Bush joked.
-- CNN.com, December 18, 2000
"A dictatorship would be a heck of a lot easier, there's no question about it, " [Bush] said.

Grand Whopping Bastard.
First, my bonafides, my father’s side of the family were Texicans before Austin showed up. I have a couple of great-greats that fought at San Jacinto, the family sat out the War of Northern Aggression since they opposed the moronic decision to join the Union in the first place. Now, to me, the statement ‘There is America and then there is Texas’ means “Y’all can go to hell, ‘cause we’ll do what we damn well please.” Now what it means to a damnyankee like DWB beats hell out of me.Can anyone explain to me what "there's America, and then there's Texas" means?
(Note, the family supported the wrong side in the American Revolution and fled to Florida. By 1819 it was obvious that the US would take over Florida and they moved to Tejas. Austin didn't get busy until the 1820's.)
I like playing with fire.

Texas was a Republic from 1836-1845, not officially a state under the U.S. Constitution and a sovereign nation for that 9 year period.
Texas, the Lone Star State Fun Facts
Texas is called the Lone Star State because of the design of the state flag: a broad vertical blue stripe at left, centered by a single white star, with horizontal bars of white and red on the right. The red means courage, the white means liberty and the blue stands for loyalty. The star has five points, one for each letter of the state's name. The word "Texas" comes from the Hasinai Indian word "Tejas," which means friends or allies.
State Flag: Known as the Lone Star Flag.
Six other flags have flown over Texas. They are:
Spanish 1519-1685
French 1685-1690
Spanish 1690-1821
Mexican 1821-1836
Republic of Texas 1836-1845
United States 1845-1861
Confederate States 1861-1865
United States 1865 to the present
Texas has 624 miles of coastline running along the Gulf of Mexico. There are 254 counties in Texas. It was the 28th state to enter the union, joining the United States on Dec. 29, 1845
Pledge to the Texas Flag: "Honor the Texas Flag. I pledge allegiance to thee. Texas, one and indivisible."

I heard a poulation expert once talking about overcrowding in the world. He said that he had supposedly worked this out mathmatically...anyways found it interesting.
This was 2 years ago. According to him, if you took the ENTIRE pouplation of the EARTH currently and divided it up into "family units" of 4 people each, you could put EVERYBODY in Texas and each 4 person unit would get one acre of land.
Now of course there would be no way to sustain such a thing with water and such, it was just an illustration. It of course also would not work cause who the fuck would want to live in Texas?
Oh yeah this is a political thread...the country is NOT safer than before 9/11 cause the most brutal terrorst in the world is in charge of the most powerful military...that woud be George Bush. Man he is such a punk.

Now we can understand why Democrats spent the last year attacking the President as someone who lied to take America into an unnecessary war and destroy brave young American lives for his corporate friends in Texas. They did it to disarm and anesthetize us, to deconstruct the very idea of what truth is or what a fact is or what is is -- and prepare us for the most shameless charade in political memory, the phoniest convention for the phoniest party ever to mount an American electoral stage.
In Boston the Democrats -- the party of Al Sharpton, Jimmy Carter, Teddy Kennedy and Michael Moore -- presented themselves as the party of patriotism and military glory and American military strength, and John Kerry as a man whose life has been one long preparation to be commander-in-chief. "I am John Kerry," he saluted his audience to begin his convention speech, "reporting for duty." Pardon me while I hurl. This is a man who came back from Vietnam to stab not only his country but his comrades-in-arms in the back. This is a man who to this very day has an honored place in the Communist enemy's "War Crimes Museum" -- that's American war crimes. This is a party and a wannabe commander in chief that has clamored and voted to oppose America's wars in Vietnam, the Persian Gulf and in Iraq. This is a party and a commander in chief that lent comfort and aid to Communist dictators in Central America during the last years of the Cold War and nearly brought the Reagan presidency down for attempting to oppose the Communist tide.
This is a man and a party that voted to cut America's military and its intelligence services year after year, a man and a party who refused to institute the security measures that would have prevented 9/11. And this is a man and a party that has sabotaged the war on terror since the day Baghdad was liberated, that has embraced the reprehensible traitor Michael Moore, and the antiwar left of the Dean campaign, that has spread monstrous lies about its commander in chief and and in doing so undermined the nation's credibility and defenses. If another terrorist state were to become a threatening nuclear force (Iran comes immediately to mind) what American president can now face that enemy down with a credible military threat?
This is a party that from the beginning to the end of its convention pretended to be what it is not. And that is because it fears that American people already know what it is.
Politics is fun...

Well, Mr. Willx, what is up your ass? All this talk about hate speech and this is the first time I’ve seen such gratuitous insult slinging. Joel and I have opposite views on many things, but generally have rather civilised conversations. (In doing so, we find that sometimes we agree.)
So what gives? If you want a discussion, discuss. If you want to look like a bitter, jaded, hostile person, by all means keep on. It’s just going to cause people to ignore you.
And now back to the original purpose of this thread:
Whatever your opinion on politics on-playa, the fact remains that this is a year round forum. It’s a place where we share our lives and thoughts in that strange, truncated way of the internet. That includes politics, it includes parking tickets, it includes pink slips (if I don’t get off of this thing!) and many other facets which make up people’s lives. To act is if we shouldn’t discuss politics here because you don’t want it/don’t think it’s appropriate on playa is more or less bull…. Because it’s totally irrelevant. This forum may be here because of the playa, but it is a community forum, not a playa forum. Unless I’m wrong, and then we ought to wipe out ‘general discussion’ altogether.
And now, back to our regularly programmed flame war…
