I am very scared by this upcoming change. Every so often I get sucked in by a notice to upgrade software on my computer, and after this upgrade, nothing is like I am used to. There is no going back. All these cool innovative things are now going to become part of my daily struggle.
I fear that this "upgrade" is not only going to wipe out our entire history of posts, but it may wipe out all our screen names and personal information as well. Will we have to re-enter our names? Do we have to start everything over? Will we be getting that oh so common apology, that we never anticipated these issues and all this was beyond our control?
I wish there was more communication on this upgrade.
In just a matter of days, life will change as we know it.

I do to. But then I'm used to the llc doing things without clearly telling us what's going on. And eplaya is the red-headed bastard step-child...Shambala wrote:I wish there was more communication on this upgrade.

Same as the last upgrade, anonymous org functionaries will tell you when it's done.

They did say something about the upgrade in the Jack Rabbit Speaks that I got. Hmmm....I need to look at how many years it's been since a JRS referred to the eplaya much less promoted it as a resource.
It's been a long time coming....and some new faces in here will be good...as long as we don't lose our current people!

EPLAYA: SCHEDULED DOWNTIME FOR SYSTEM UPGRADE
E-Whiteout! On June 20th at 7:00pm PST, the ePlaya will be taken down for an important server and software upgrade. The whole process is expected to take about 24 hours, and once it's all said and done, we'll be unveiling a faster, better ePlaya!
If you're interested in helping to beta test the new version (which would be awesome!), please email [email protected].
For those of you who don't know, the ePlaya is Burning Man's official BBS, where Burners stay in touch with each other year round. Want to join the conversation? You can find it here:

I have a PM questoin for our sysops.. My PM mailbox is full and I have started to delete messages. I love to keep them.
1st question will there be more space for mail in the next version?
2nd question is there a bulk method of forwarding pm to email addy?

Same here, it'd be great to save important PM's via emailing. Otherwise, it seems copying in word and saving them will suffice.wedeliver wrote:I have a PM questoin for our sysops.. My PM mailbox is full and I have started to delete messages. I love to keep them.

Preserving the old Posts
I want to make two points as to why some of the Old Posts should be preserved:
Needed: Someone to wipe my butt by Chai Guy
Jagged Texas redneck blown away by SEXY Jewish backpacker by M Joe Boss (RIP)
I use these two classic posts as examples, for different reasons, of what we would lose if the old board contents are tossed.
I'm not saying everything needs to stay. These posts are not informational, but Chai Guy's proposal is great humor, and Joe's Playa story is touching and made bittersweet by his loss.
Perhaps some sort of archive, like what we currently have.

Re: Preserving the old Posts
M Joe Boss's story is more than bittersweet, what a sad ending. There's a lesson to be learned; I think he neeed treatment for manic depression.marck wrote:I want to make two points as to why some of the Old Posts should be preserved:
