First time burners coming from Toronto... with a telescope!

Post by CammyTheSeeker » Sat Jun 11, 2011 7:47 pm

hellooooooooo burners!

My name is Camila, I'm a 23 year old Brazilian girl who will be coming to the playa for the first time this year together with her boyfriend Clay.

I'll be bringing my telescope, so those interested in looking at the stars let me know so we can meet up!

I'll also be volunteering at Media Mecca. :)

See you guys soon!
In Lak'ech Ala K'in.

Hi Camila! Sounds like you've got your head on your shoulders. :) Welcome to the board.

The stars at Burning Man are amazing--I'm tempted to accept your invitation.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

Astronomy? Excellent!
I've been debating on buying a telescope to bring. It seems like the PERFECT place for viewing.
It also seems like a great way to survey the playa to make a list of the artworks you'd like to journey towards.

Welcome!

Thats a super Idea! I'd love to see some stars up close (or at least closer than I've seen them already with my eyes)

Cheers!

One of the old members of our camp brought a telescope once. As I recall, all they ever used it for was to spy on other peoples' tents or camps. Oh, and watch people in the shower.

They are now part of Gigsville, or was it the Spenard Bar? Either way, no worries.

Thanks Savannah! I'm really looking forward to being at Black Rock City! About the telescope, I'm thinking that once I decide where I'm going to be camping, I'll post it here so that everyone interested in coming by to see the stars can find me there :)

Welcome to Eplaya,
Sorry I'm a little late on the introductions!

I've always thought it would be a blast to have a telescope in BRC. But like Doc said, I'd probably just use it for looking out at the playa.

Any idea where you plan to camp?
If you're close you could bring it over one day/night and we could set it up on top of the RV.
Why don't ya stick your head in that hole and find out? ~piehole

That would be the perfect thing, if safe and not overly difficult--setting it on top of a nice broad, solid RV. I stargazed from the top of Dragonpilot's last year and it was gorgeous.

What I wonderful idea! If your telescope is small portable enough you might want to take it outside the outer ring road, or deep playa. Less light pollution, and sometimes you can see the spiral arm with naked eyes.

Word or caution.. you might not want to point that thing at some camps. Sure it seems like a great idea at the time, but once you see what can't be unseen it'll haunt you. :)

Sweet just let me know!

So my monitor at work isn't as good as my one at home, or I didn't look close enough. SO now that I've had a better look I'd like to say our profile picture kicks ass! Is that really the Sphinx?

I have a plan for some time later in my life (when I'm rich) I call it 'The great stone structures tour'
I don't have all the details figured out. But I'll start in Egypt with the fascination that 'the longest unchanged culture' has to offer. Then go to Greece see the Pantheon, then to Istanbul, Turkey to see the Hagia Sophia. Then to Rome.
