Biking with the Bikeless
Every year I go out to the playa, I'm biking around and meet people I want to take with me on a mini adventure. Sometimes they have a bike, and sometimes they don't. And I've always thought it'd be really neat to have my own art car but not a whole art car and not one of those goofy golf carts to take these bikeless people with me.
I just discovered this guy in Oakland. He builds and has rickshaws!

The only problem with that is your stuck pedaling said person around. But my parents used one last year and are bringing another one this year, so they do work well for the purpose.
The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

May I recommend the longtail?

Longtail conversions or complete frames can carry a second seat easily.
The Big Dummy is a wide frame, not quite up to the Pugsley level, but can carry very wide tires.
Note the open source tech on the longtail.
I called xtracycle about the Big Dummy, and they are going to offer a burner discount to see how much interest there is.
Small for now, but a real discount.
The code will be xtraburner.

Glad to help.
Note that the open source applies to anyone making fittings commercially too.
That's commitment to a concept, and to community.
At least some of these guys are burners.
Even if they weren't, doing open source is an incredible thing to do.
Burnier than most.
They think most bikes are designed for a different purpose than what we use them for.
I think they're right.

There are also trailers for riders.
I have a trail a bike.
They are marketed for kids, but can carry a small adult.
Another canadian product, like the swagman racks.
It would be easy to make a full size one.
It makes a difference when they can pedal.
Trek also makes one.
