spending $419 for a tent is in no way a bargain. how much money do you drop on BM each year?

Bummed considering I just spent 499.99 on the same damn one. The tent quality is outstanding though. Worth the 499, but stupid to pass on the much cheaper price.

This weekend I saw Coleman 10 person tents at costco for (iirc) $150 or so. Best news: it looks completely sealable.

i'm not saying that it's cheap but for this particular tent the price is a bargain especially considering that i have researched and sporadically checked prices on these kodiak tents on and off for the past 2 years and haven't ever seen anything more than approximately a 10% discount off retail being offered on them this is a great deal.

We purchased a Kodiak 10X14 recently and took it camping for the first time last weekend. The simplicity is superb. The zippers are the toughest I've seen on a modern tent. The floor is the same stuff of which my Rhino garage is made. The canvas breathes with no condensation, yet guaranteed water proof. NO FLY NECESSARY! NO GUY LINES! This fucker does not budge in the wind.

I can put it up in 15 minutes and put it away just as quickly all by myself. The poles are steel. The spring bars are STEEL. And it comes in TWO generously spacious bags with the same zippers as the tent. And made of tougher stuff than the tent itself. They also come standard with SIXTEEN 12", 5/16" diameter STAINLESS STEEL tent stakes.

Having said that, I also had my Gigatent FT052 up and housing three individuals in a 10'X20', 8' ceiling with three rooms partitioned. It is completely bilateral.

The center doors access the center room from each side of the tent. You can also have an 8'X10' canopy over both doors on both sides simultaneously. The graphite poles on top keep it more rigid than the solid-pole model FT053. There are fewer plastic hubs and the graphite spring bars relieve stress on the hubs. It stands pretty well on its own without guy lines. Plenty of guy line tie points on the rain fly with 10" stainless, 1/4" diameter stakes.

I also have a Coleman 10X14 dome-type tent. It replaced another Coleman tent that did not survive one night on the stony shores of Walker Lake, NV. The hhhhhhhhhHHHHHHHHHOWLING wind simply broke the poles which pierced the tent, which ended up on our faces for the duration of the night. In case you are wondering, we were motorcycle camping so the was no immediate refuge.

Anyway,,,, even camping on Gaviota Beach is too much wind for the Coleman.

$419 for a regularly priced $500 tent is a bargain.

Its a question of perspective. A Kodiak will last you an easy 20 years if you properly take care of the tent, like not storing it wet.

How many $150 Coleman nylon shock corded dome cabin tents will you go through in 20 years? The bungee in the poles is good for about 5 years before it disintegrates

And Dropping $500 on a tent would be at the smaller end of my expense sheet, especially for this year's adventure, but I already own a 10x10 and a 10x14 Kodiak, so I don;t have to worry about it.

the deal is still active if anyone wants one and i got it even cheaper as i found another code for 10% off that stacks with the 30% off.

this is a coupon code i got for sportman's warehouse for the 30% off a kodiak tent from the amex daily deal wish list
30% code: SWdclm23527c
10% code: SWmrdwish1
i got it to stack with a 10% code i got off the amex shopping website
my total for the kodiak deluxe 10x14 kodiak broke down as follows
after 30%
subtotal $419.99
discount (for the 10% code) -$42
shipping $27.45
total $405.44
i thought the sportman's warehouse code was only a single use but i tried putting it in again after i already placed my order and it took the discount again
the order for discounts i used was
add tent to cart
apply 10% code
apply 30% code
checkout with sweet deal
anyway hopefully someone who is shopping for a kodiak tent can replicate this deal before the codes become inactive
also I think you could apply the same codes to get the 10x10 deluxe for $342 shipped
original cost $500
with 30% code $349.99
with 10% code $314.99
plus $27.45 shipping

Excited to read a few other positive posts on the Kodiak, have been contemplating the big purchase for a while and think I've psyched myself up to pick up the 10'x14' model. Looks like a very impressive tent.

Wanted to ask, any chance anyone has seen any other discounts on Kodiak's, Sports Warehouse or Cabella's? What'd make this sweet tent even sweeter would be a nice discount, the one's posted earlier have expired and can't find any other online.

Thanks,

Paul

da moth, sorry if i missed it somewhere else, but what size canvas kodiak did you get? seems like overkill to go with the 10x14 as it's just for me (at the moment), but then again doubt that i'd be bummed about the extra space...and is only 100 bucks more for 50% more size.

also, how warm does the tent get, say in a BRC situation? have you camped with a carport or other shade device over it or found the fancy canvas to do a good enough job staying cool. torn about if i should put time into finding a shade option or a DIY cooling option.

thanks again.

I'm wondering the same thing. I just got a Kodiak tent for this year and even built a little swamp cooler but am wondering whether I will still overheat without having an actual shade strucutre over it. And since the 10 x14' is so massively huge, I can't find a cheap or easy shade structure for it. the obvious solution would be a carport but I'm trying to avoid having to go that route... Already have a whole camp to build and don't want to have my own camp within the camp to build as well...

so haven't had any luck with finding a sturdy, sub $250 carport option this weekend, will give it a few more days of hunting but may end up going with this as a back up: http://www.shadeclothstore.com/depts/al ... cloth.html some have talked about the 70% model lowering tent temps up to 15 degrees. not to mention the sweet baked-potato look it'll give the tent. i'll update the thread if find anything else, online they all seem just a bit too flimsy.
