The feather mafia: win or fail?

Post by some seeing eye » Tue Jun 14, 2011 10:26 pm

It's no secret that many burners are fashion conscious, even fashion pioneers. And it's no secret that some of those trends are subsequently adopted by the larger American culture.

Personally I'm not a fan of featherificatioin or furification. The Audubon Society was formed in response to depletion of wild species for their feathers. http://americanhistory.si.edu/feather/index.htm

And this story seems a little exaggerated, hard to believe there is a long term shortage given how many birds are farmed in the world for eating. But still:

Seems this dominion over beasts is getting a little overdone.

at times, at gate, we've confiscated feathery things.
Read the main site info, it addresses this issue.
CFM is right. MOOP.

last year saw a whole bunch of people dressed like road warriors (all decked out in feather head and shoulder dress) riding around on segways camped just up the road from us . Thought to myself "wtf, feathers?". I was a virgin and reading the bm guide knew that feathers were verboten.
I admit they did look pretty cool...
Then when the moop map came out, I saw that same area did not do well at all...to bad they weren't as cool as they looked. :x

Thanks all for the replies.

The ban on feathers was based on the proliferation in the mid 2000's of feather boas. But the tribal feather movement began in the early 2000's out of Oregon, later SF and LA.

What I was getting at is not on playa feathers, but the influence of Burningman on very large numbers of people in the world, pursuing values at odds with overall world improving BM values.

When feathers are outlawed, only outlaws will have feathers.

Let's try not to take ourselves too seriously. There is no certain way of knowing what we can do, or if we can do anything, to "improve" the world. Let's just assume that we are no better and no worse than the people who attend Daytona Speed Week, pro-rated as necessary.

Feather boas?
I haven't seen anyone wearing boas.

Do all feathers fall apart out there?
I have an eagle feather and it is extremely tough.
I can see small ones coming loose from something else though.
That is more of a mechanical problem, than a feather issue.

I realize I went off-topic, but any chance I get to say NO SEQUINS, BEADS, COINS, FEATHERS, FRINGE, ETC. will be taken.

This past Sunday on MOOP patrol I had the pleasure of returning several coins to hip-scarf wearers. Who didn't get it and I wanted to HIT them, but that's even more off-topic.

There was only one feather, but it was from a bird so we let it slide. Silly bird!
