DAY 30 LOOMS LARGE- Is your Project Graveyard filling up?

Post by robotland » Fri Jul 30, 2004 10:13 am

I just sat down and took a good look at the calendar and map. The I-90 detour to see The Forevertron, Crazy Horse and Carhenge is now officially Toast. Had to downscale the beacon for the Snowman structure. Several costumes were eliminated or amalgamated. Design mods on the Playa bike- Nope.

*sigh*

Still goin', still gonna have a Damn Good Time. How's it with YOU?

Ambition is not a sin.

Pragmatism is a virtue, especially a month out.

Much better to arrive on the playa satisfied with what you did finish than pissed about what didn't get done. And -Bonus!- you've got a headstart on next year!

I am feeling pretty good.

thank god for the regionals, they really kick your ass into gear.

In a perfect world I would do about 10-20 more minutes more animation but I feel pretty good at the moment.

Not doing too bad. The bikes are totally covered in fur. The trailer is painted and re-upholstered, just needs electricity. The shower structure is built, needs painting and a stand needs to be built (easy). Just gonna do the black plastic evap pond.
As far as costume, I cant find anything in large or extra large.

I put the camp infrastrucutrue to bed about two days ago. That feels good.

Early on, we looked at each other and said "if we get X amount done, it will be a sucess, any more will just be extra." We passed that point on our art project about a week ago, but it's still fun to work on and we're still refining.

Truck still needs some work for maintenance and driving, but that'll get done.

Doin' it all on adrenaline again this year.

Decided one week ago I was going.
Spent too much $ on fabric last night.
Spent the last two nights sewing instead of sleeping (couldn't put it down; now i feel like shit)
Know who I'm camping with.
Know how I'm travelling (there, not back)
Know what I'm living in.
Ticket?
Food?

Ah, whatever, it all feels great.

I took a cheap bouquet of white silk flowers and spray painted them silver. I've seen flower made out of palm fronds. A bouquet with EL wire would be cool though it might be a bit of work. Congrats to you.

How 'bout those st00pid battery-operated roses with the Xmas light in the middle you used to be able to get at Great America? Take a dozen of those or so, wrap the hell out of the stems (duct tape or zipties for that true Burner touch), and you're good to go!

Here's some - and hell, they're cheaper than real roses!

I've got the structural on the dome done.

http://www.lostmachine.com/Images/Misc/BM

*Need to frame doors for it
*Need to sew panels to cover it.
*Need to figure out what to put in it
*Need to fix trailer to transport it
*Need to disassemble it

oh

and

*Need to figure out everything else I need to bring with me...food, water, bikes, tents....

That stuff will have to wait for now.

I got the pottie signs printed up. Got clothes together. I have my poop patrol pants made. I got my kitty-sitting situation under control for 2.5 weeks. Note to self: buy beer.
Still need to make apron.
Still need to cut visquine (clear plastic for over the signs.)
Still need to print up iron-on transfers for scarves. Oop, need to purchase iron-on transfer paper. Then they get ironned-on...26 times.
Just got another p/t job, so time will be shorter.
Dealing with medical issue, so money will remain tight.

Overall score: doing pretty good for the 30 day mark.

The Anubis StickHob will be finished this weekend...also going to do a test-erection of the car roof-mounted shade canopy to see what it needs, otherwise the main work on it is done.

Packed up three more boxes today, but now I have to haul a bunch of World of Darkness gamebooks out there, and collate my character's costume. Have to make an Anubis mask because the last one fell apart in storage...

Have ditched the oaken roof rack project because I'm out of money and found an alternative.

Bike needs to be lit up and decorated. Chain needs de-rusting and the derailleurs need cleaning, but otherwise it's okay.

Have gotten this week's groceries and packed them.

I need to get in bike-riding shape.

The "Thanks for keeping Wolf Camp a Politics-Free Zone" sign needs to be edged and varnished.

Herb garden has come back from the dead and the heat wave up here has actually been acclimatizing my body.

Sewed up the canopy, one of the hut-doors, the car curtains and a couple other odds 'n ends the other day.

Clothes are mostly packed up. The water closet is all accounted for and packed except for the umbrella and the solar showerbag. The bedroom is totally accounted for and ready to go except the featherbed, and I'm sleeping on that until the 27th when I load up the car.

Aside from the food which I'm getting on my way out of town, I only need to buy one umbrella, a camp stove (the one I had is toast), and fuel for the stove, and I have all three of those sourced. Just waiting for the money to clear.

Well... we raised enough money at the fundraiser to get the 17' moving van so that's a start... first time I've ever driven one of these bad boys so everyone better watch out on rt 80 eastbound out of SF Sunday morning!!!

This weekend, we're getting together to:

-shake out the parachute and mend a few holes from last year
-figure out which pieces of dome are going to need to be replaced and build it
-design the kitchen and stage area

It's funny reading your post, robotland-
I get down on myself too, sometimes, for all the things that I was hoping to do, but can't, for whatever reason. Lots of projects havn't been completed because people slacked off or the situation didn't work out. The one thing I've come to cherish, however, is having a few virgins in our camp. I find that it's their energy, excitement and curiosity that keeps me going- telling the same old stories about pirate ships and dust storms- until we're all there again.

See y'all soon-

If there was ever one place you could get him into that dress or shorts, BRC is it. Good luck Unjon.

That's why I kinda sew. Besides sarongs are one size fit most, two sarongs are even better. or a big ass cape. muumuus, dresses in the plus size of the thrift shop ... or go get super sized touristy clothes and go as a middles aged yahoo.

Or a hat and shoes and sunscreen, that fits most every body

Since the Olympic and DNC prep set me back on things, it looks like I'm stuck with sarongs this year. That and my dragonfly wings if I want to bring them. I've always struggled with what to wear out there. I'm a guy so engineering shade structures and the like I can get into. Fashion wise I'm hopeless. And back to the sarongs, I keep thinking of the Piss Clear playa fashion article and worry that with my sarongs Eric will snap a picture of me and publish it as what not to wear on the playa.

Reno has a Penneys Out Let Store. The last of runs, returns and stuff like that for cheap. I stopped in a couple of years ago. They had some real colorful muumuus. They were made for some one much larger than I. Now they make great evening wear on the playa. I'm going to copy the patteren in some like cotton. I'm not going to try the dark colors for this year. Maybe nxt year.

Same here. I told my girl that she can dress me this year, but I'll most likely go with the tattoos and shorts.

Is this a brand new car? I saw something last year with Anubis that was cool. Do you have pics? My husband adores all things Egyptian.

The StickHob is a stick horse but since it's a wolf I can't really call it a horse ;) It's in the shape of Anubis, He's bounding along like the lissome, lithe trickster-hound-of-heaven that He is. I'm bringing Him as part of my ensemble as I am playing a priestess of Anubis in Elonifer's Opera out at the Temple of Stars Sunday evening, before it burns.

No pictures yet...should have some next week. I'm doing a general photo session of the latest batch later. And of course I'll be bringing Him out to the Playa with me :)

Your husband's gotta catch the Opera. We're also going to have an Egyptian solar barque art car that they just started on yesterday...yikes, time to hustle!
