Protecting Electronics

Post by LostMachine » Sat Jul 31, 2004 5:30 pm

Does anyone have experience or ideas on protecting a laptop, MP3 player and a small receiver?

I’m thinking of putting them in small Tupperware containers and gluing aluminum foil on the outside (shiny side out) having a small shade structure over that. Then some vents on the bottom with small cooling fans creating a cross breeze and filters to keep dust out.

Any other ideas on keeping things cool?

from your description it is not clear if the fans are drawing air into the tupperware or blowing it out or just across the vents. either way, computers, especially laptops need air not to over heat. since the air is already so damn hot, they need a lot of air. your basic idea is good: an airtight box with a fan blowing filtered air through a vent around your 'lectrics and out a second vent. in my personal experience you have to choose between filters that grab most of the unbelievably fine playa dust but need to be changed often, and not so good filters that will last a few days. it obviously depends on weather dust storms hit your stuff squarely and how often.

oh and if you put it under shade, i think the foil is redundant, unless its next to something really hot and you are trying to reflect radiant heat.
