Hello :D
My name is Emma, I have been to the Burn once-2009 when I just sort of fell into it with a wonderful camp and everything. This year I am leading the charge with two of my best friends who are virgins. We are getting a late start and we NEED a camp stat!
The good news is that we are friendly, low-key, low-drama and very creative. I am a painter and all-around artist, Mike's job is as a doc-film editor but he is an AMAZING photographer. Jenn is a screen-writer and one of the most energetic and creative people I know. Jenn and Mike are both spending their summers WWoofing, couchsurfing and general Bohemian-ing. But we are hoping to launch out of PDX, where I live--and would therefore like to find theme camp that is Portland based.
I would be more than happy to do what I can for the camp over the summer, all the way up till the end of the burn. Jenn and Mike will not be in Portland till late August but will be great assests in set-up and Burn-time.
<3 love

Hi Emma! Find regional contacts for Oregon here:

Chase down some camps in 2011 Theme Camps thread as well. They don't usually check this forum.
Luckily, you've been before, so you know that you don't have to have a camp to survive, unless you require certain amenities (and can't provide them). Shade and a shower (with a responsible evap system) seem to be popular desires for those seeking a camp, but I can tell you that a friend & I did fine as a camp of 2 in 2008 and 2009, setting up our own PVC shower and monkey hut for shade. We used a cargo van to transport the long pieces of PVC. A passenger van might also work, creatively configured. So 3 people might be able to camp even better than Miss A & I did, especially if one of you is a bit handy, and the other 2 can take direction.
Good luck finding a camp. This is the time of year where reality sinks in for people . . . and this may mean a few exits from camps that you can fill, especially if you have skills they need.

Hi Emma,
You guys sound like you have a lot to offer and many camps would be lucky to have you...however, many of those same camps might not appeal to you.
Now, there are theme camps and just plain ol' non-theme camps...basically a group of folks who just get together to share camp facilities and enjoy each others company. Having gone before you can see that most of the theme camps are quite elaborate and require lots of work, talent and time setting up, maintaining and breaking down.
So, depending on the level at which you are willing to commit, search the 2011 Theme Camps link in this forum and select a few that seem to pique your interest. That done, contact their POC and sell yourself. They will not respond to your post here.
If your idea of camping is more along the lines of just hanging out with a cool group, sharing some camp duties, chilling most of the time then best bet is to get involved with your regional contacts and do some face-to-face schmoozing...they get to know you and vice versa.

Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.

I tried to collect useful tips here. But I dont' think you "need" a camp.* You might do very well bringing what you have and meeting your neighbors. Or the Orphans and the Staggers may have space. It's late to join an actual theme camp, applications have been put in, and those include camp numbers. That doesn't mean that you can't find people to camp with, just that absorbing 3 people might not work for a lot of camps.
*And, no, I don't need reminding that I said earlier today that I need a camp for next year.
