They weren't quite etchings, but I believe the art involved carving into a painted surface with a knife to expose white space. So close, yet so far.
That sounds like a scratchboard.

My cat has a scratchboard! Can I give it away as art?

Someone gifted scratchboard art to the Home one year. This medium does not fare well on the playa, one dust storm and the pieces were simply playa colored boards.

Chalk drawings do even less well.

Just a big piece of slate! Go to brush it off and brush away the art!

I have been gluing little chunks of particle board onto my roll of primed canvas to make many small canvasses. Now if I only felt like painting. I have these, I have canvas boards, stretch canvas, art to become wayward, and zippo on the creative drive.

Oh-oh, jaded alert.

Jaded? AntiM? Never

If you glue canvas to particle board does it make it just as smooth and taught as stretched canvas?
I know nothing about painting.

It gives a nice, flat, sturdy surface. I use molding wood glue, which is quick and fast setting. Stretch canvas actually is more flexible (at least the cheap ones). I use less and less stretch canvas because one year someone cleaned me out of those paintings without filling out adoption cards, I was quite disillusioned that the art had been taken as art supplies and not for enjoyment.

Year 11, yes, I do get a bit jaded. We don't have a newb this year, nor any of our high energy members, just the core three from UT, and one very dear friend. Fingers crossed we get some of our other friends from the past, camp is always better with a good mix of personalities who are known to mesh and bring different flavors to the shade structure. We're a far flung family, and not everyone can make the reunion each year.

Ahmen!
Same with a camp fire.
There's a handful of people I really only seem to see when we go camping. Not a whole lot better than sitting around a camp fire (drunk as a skunk) talking shit with a good mix of people.

What's uniquely fun is when you can't see people's faces anymore, because there's just a lantern or two if anything, and you're all talking and laughing across a dark shade structure. Something about not being able to see each other makes for added silliness.

You can do what ever you want, cause its sorta like no one knows whos saying it.
Even though you all know each other's voices to a T.

Its a damn shame having a bonfire would be such a pain on the playa.

New (to me) vintage Flat Chain belt, to go with my Black velvet bell-bottoms and Black Velvet Cowboy hat that says "Groom" across the front in Silver rhinestones.

Now looking for Skanky Spanky Pants for the princess-bunny-foo get up.

uh oh. if it's not fun, don't bother. Your real canvas is the idea of the place, and that's 99 percent of it right there. I had a very random thought this morning while surveying the mess and the barely started projects... "I don't want to go, it's just too much work." Time to scale back the work part of it and focus on the stuff I want to do because..... it will be fun.

Exactly.

The protective effect of frequent ejaculation has been demonstrated in several robust studies. The only question is, why are we so slow to get the word out? Where are the billboards, PSAs, rubber bracelets, pin-on ribbons.....

sheesh.

Beautiful coats, y'all!

I got the fuzzy "leopard" cut out for my night-time cloak yesterday... 8)

Sadly I am not much of a dresser-upperor. My dry humour and dodgy accent will have to suffice. It will be practical shoes, whatever shirts and pants and skirts that fit into my bag. Gosh that sounds sad. Any advice for a short, curvy chick?

Jammy pants for lounging in camp, any sort of ethnic clothes (kimono, yukata, salwaaar kameez, muumuu). Or hit any of the costume boutiques that spring up in BRC.

Fufa, that coat is amazing!!!!
I totally hear ya on the thrift stores!
Here in Denver we have 1 amazing thrift store for coats, its called Unique Thrift store. I don't think its part of a chain like salvation or Goodwill. So far we have found 3 fur coats and 1 fur vest. Sadly, for me, all womans sizes, and the ones that fit around my gut/chest, barely go down past my belly button, but look great on my girl friend.

One Tip: be careful if you want to get it dry cleaned. The first fur coat I got my girl, I paid 15 for the coat 35 to dry clean. Turned out to be real fur.

Be yourself and fuck those costuming hippies. Costumes are for losers and people who spend their free time putting on glitter instead of pounding rebar and WORKING!

Or just come see me and borrow something out of my three tubs of outfits.

Whoa, scary. For a moment there I thought Cfm was channeling DPW!

MelanieJane, I love sarongs for easy, exotic, comfortable and airy clothing. It can be a scarf, a top, a belt, a dress (if you're skinny), a cloak, etc etc. I LOVE them. I pretty much always have one in my backpack/bike bag at all times no matter what my outfit is. They are just too handy for impromptu shade, dust mask, scarf, whatever.

I don't know if jeans and a pocket tee really are congruous with my shoulder pad rig. I feel like something more is needed but shouldn't be too hot. What would go with this:

It was so hard to keep a straight face. I kept cracking up

I'm thinking a black leather cup decorated with rivets and wearing the Wheel of Truth & Despair as a medallion:

(My stamp set is missing the U so I had to use the V instead :) )

Any suggestions?
Maybe a tan?

I think I'm gonna hit the thrift stores today. Can't wait for half price Monday...
We have two Goodwill wasteland outlets that sell clothing by the pound in the great big bins. So funny watching people flock around the new bins as they roll out from the back room. Like seagulls attacking an open dumpster :)
