To Die in Mexico
http://www.citylights.com/book/?GCOI=87286100442200
If you've ever wanted to really understand the drug war...I mean in Mexico and the US, this book is a must read. Bank of America?? Watchovia involved?? You bet. Mexico in this book comes off as a nation now functioning more like a major crime state than a government. The corruption that enables this ever expanding criminal enterprise reaches to respected banks in America and across the globe, arms sellers in the US and our own level of corruption in government that knows these things yet turns a blind eye because the economics of it all enables our banks and corrupt capitalists to stay solvent.
Get enlightened. The book is fairly short and concise. It is a must read. We are being sold a bill of bull shit in this phony war on drugs.

Oh but with a little more time and a little more money I really believe we're going to turn the corner on this drug war.
Good book.
Dad died in Mexico on vacation.
If we'd have used a cartel transportation outfit we'd have had him back in the US 5 days sooner.
Just sayin'...

In my opinion this is the most convincing evidence yet that the drug war is an EPIC FAIL.
Strange duo to cosponsor the bill, but I applaud them both. Unfortunately, it won't go anywhere.

legalization of pot is probably likely as a state by state choice...let's see. The problem is that illegality renders gigantic profits for the cartels, the Mex and US govs and most evil of all...the big banks.

As long as we have prohibited "vices" then somebody is going to make a buck off of it.
We'll be "forced" to invade Mexico in about 10 years, or sooner. Mark my words.
Most of the country sees california as the outlaw state.
I still think california will be responsible for state's rights being curtailed sharply, by their behavior.
The latest tactic, or at least revealed, is skinning alive.
Mexico has drug war relocation camps.
I think few here have any grip on the loss of control a black market can create.
The young girl that took the job of mayor in that town in mexico has been forced to seek asylum in the usa.
She was visibly shaking on camera.
Whether violence or threats, I leave to your imagination.
I would consider mexico a conflict zone equivalent to Sierra Leone or Somalia at this point.

I spent 10 years driving around every bit of Mexico. I don't go there anymore. The "arcos" [narcotraficantes] just tell a person "plata o plomo". lead or silver. They can get to just about anyone.

I just returned from a few days in cabo san lucas ....
last year we stayed in a little community about 1/2 hour north of ensenada, and visited ensenada for one day, it was pretty creepy ... unfinished hulks of buildings were all along the coast, and the downtown tourist area of ensenada was empty, with a huge police presence. we talked to one store owner, who said he couldn't last much longer without tourists. this year, i have heard that no tourists are allowed in town from the cruise ships, it's just too dangerous.
so i was expecting something similar in cabo, but i was happy to see the opposite. the town felt very safe, people were everywhere, nothing scary at all. it's very much a resort town, and everyone it seemed spoke excellent english. my brothers are both construction guys, and they noticed that the newer buildings in town were being built to international standards, rather than the more lax mexican code. one brother bought a timeshare, and we talked to the sales guy for a long time about mexico's problems, among other things .... he said that they just didn't see the problems in cabo because there is no easy access to the US. he said that, in his opinion, even mexico city's problems had more to do with the usual big city crime, rather than the drug traffickers. i believe that acapulco is the main drug hub, and there are routes to the US .... anywhere within 100 miles of the US is very dangerous. but most of the country is actually pretty safe.
i hope some solution is found, in any case. i love the country, i love their folk art, and the people are so nice. just my $ .02
