Hey FoxFur, you need a bottle opener on those shoulder pads, and maybe a little copper tubing coming over the top. That is an awsome set up, I love it!

Been out of town for a while, so haven't been shopping, per say. But I did aquire more camo netting, and more rebar, and an old spool for a table.

Nice shoulder pads, Foxfur! (I almost typed "mice shoulder pads", which is a whole 'nother costume waiting to happen.)

I have the opposite problem . . . I have a great fur collar (much like Fufa's new one) & matching fur hem snipped off an old coat I got at a thrift store. I wore the coat into the ground, but the fur had been added late in its life, so it's still in great shape and I kept it. I want to add it to a coat, but I don't have one that's deserving. I've a crazy plaid vintage one, but it's in such beautiful shape I'd feel bad taking it to the desert.

Brilliant coat, Fufa.

Oo, jella. You may be onto something.

I also have a 60's vintage dust-colored(!) suede I'm thinking about bringing. High collar, no lapel. Two large button closures on a high stance. Barely worn; passed on to me by a friend's mother. It'd be good on a 50-degree night but not a 38-degree night.

It has an indifferent circle of brown fur trim that seems like an afterthought or an add-on (doesn't do anything for the coat). Too bad its prim, high collar doesn't match the ostentatious brown fur pieces.

I WILL solve this. :)

Be yourself and fuck those costuming hippies. Costumes are for losers and people who spend their free time putting on glitter instead of pounding rebar and WORKING!

Or just come see me and borrow something out of my three tubs of outfits.

I don't know if jeans and a pocket tee really are congruous with my shoulder pad rig. I feel like something more is needed but shouldn't be too hot. What would go with this:

It was so hard to keep a straight face. I kept cracking up

I'm thinking a black leather cup decorated with rivets and wearing the Wheel of Truth & Despair as a medallion:
Image
(My stamp set is missing the U so I had to use the V instead :) )

Any suggestions?
Maybe a tan?

I think I'm gonna hit the thrift stores today. Can't wait for half price Monday...
We have two Goodwill wasteland outlets that sell clothing by the pound in the great big bins. So funny watching people flock around the new bins as they roll out from the back room. Like seagulls attacking an open dumpster :)
I don't know about the costume...but the medallion...OK, you got me! Profoundly disappointed and laughing!

Girls...
Please see the picture in blue. It may change your mind.
I have three identical twin brothers. One my age and two that are in their early thirties... I'll try to bring the party pack.

I love the tux idea! I hope St. Vincent de Paul's has one!

And CFM, OMG!
Image
I was really worried about the cavernous size of that man basket until I saw the ad copy:
The model in the close-up is abnormally large, but the pouch is designed to fit properly on all conceivable sizes.

Thought I'd have to get the kids size

Good idea Figgy! I think I have four diff colors.
They'd be nice and cool in the daytime. I'll wear the tux (and the male mail with suspenders) after dark! Think Borat.

Foxfur - I second the bottle opener idea, but if it were mine I would consider adding a raccoon tail or two.

Or a coyote mask on each shoulder would be interesting as well.

You're cracking me up. I'm glad you're camping with us.

You could do faux chainmail kirtle, kilt, loin cloth, "man basket," pants, etc. with fake chainmail fabric or just something shiny. Or like, harem-y pants.

Really just depends on the overall image you want to convey.

Ever since I was a kid I've wanted to make a suit out of dismembered soccer balls. With the color scheme it should not be too hot or cold...

Thanks CFM. Great ideas. I'm glad so many people are into this, so many great motivating suggestions. My projects wouldn't be half as cool without eplayans feedback and motivation. I'm hittin fabric warehouse today. Now that I know EspressoDude has and can drive a sewing machine I'm hoping he can teach me to drive mine :) Can't wait!!!

My workroom (aka 2nd bedroom) IS a fabric warehouse.

I haven't sewn anything this year, the tendonitis has flared up again and again. Good thing I have ten years of costumes on tap.

I agree with Misa. Foxfur you're adorable! I love the medallion and I'm not sure WHYYY you have a spatula in your mouth but hey, it was cute!!! :D :D :D

Glad you're having so much fun with your costumes. That's why I love Burning Man prep. It's months of on-the-edge anticipation that just ramps up when you are working on or complete a project. So much fun!

Dodgy accent, dry humour, and.... a silly hat or wearable lights of some sort (really necessary at night, this year, little moon) I always go with a hat, a hat with lights, a hat with attitude and good shade. There's nothing wrong with sensible in my book. You will accessorize more as the week goes on and a smile is the best thing to wear anyway. My neighbors have always added to my gear with goofy things they brought. I also have had some good ground score schwag moop. or moop schwag?

Foxfur, a Roman style belt & apron would be much easier to deal with in the JOTS, especially if you are drunk:

Image

and, just begs for Foxfur Special custom rivets. Would look great with a tan 8) or, cotton boxers.

MelanieJane, sarongs are a great idea, just buy a big square of pretty fabric and practice wrapping it around your bod. If it looks like it will fray & MOOP, run a line of Fray-Blok or glue or fabric paint along the edge.

Short skirts are cool and can be warmed up with stockings or leggings at night time. Fishnets or patterns are fun, small light & easy to pack.

Booty shorts, ditto, I buy "boy short" panties which are exactly the same thing at 1/10th the price.

Any coat or jacket or fuzzy bathrobe can be jazzed up with el-wire, sewn on the outside for a crisp image or inside for a blurry glow... and, I have an extra 10-ft piece with a battery pack attached, takes 2 AA's, happy to help you with that MJ! 8)

Damn Jet, very practical. I'm goin with it as my primary. Secondary outfits for travelling or when I wanna feel mysterious.
MDF - that roman garb is hot, yeeow! Daddy like! I'ma start looking for patterns!
Minxy and Misa! You two are awful. Yay awful. I love you both!
Oh Minxy, that was a huge salad fork in my mouth. I'm subject to whimsy.

I hit 3 yard sales and 2 goodwills. 2 fur vests, 1 is leopard spotted, 1 looks like real fur.
At home I found that it's actually a fur lined khaki vest. I'm leaving it inside out.
A buck for the cutest sheepskin lined camo BDU style jacket for gifting. Women's small.
Some really awesome BDU pants, extra thin ripstop and made my 6'oclock look way acceptable . BDU's dont do that. I noticed the cut was unusual, waist was a bit low and the zipper was really short. Looked at the tag inside and they're ladies. I found em on a rack in mens. The tag said 34. Who knew? Comfiest pants ever. Spent 20 minutes crusin pants in the ladies racks

30 feet of red rope light to use or gift. 120volt but perfect for where a generator is, at a bar maybe? It's brand new and was $3.

[/blather]

You don't need no stinkin' pattern, get a big wide belt and start riveting strips to it.

I am all in favor of "way acceptable" glutes. Best reason ever for that Roman apron arrangement, don't you think?

Oh my! I was pretty tired minded when I wrote that. I meant it as a self esteem thing. I had my midlife birthday this year so looking over the shoulder in the mirror and seeing that made me subvocalize a YAY! I love myself in a non-narcississtic and healthy way :).

And I totally failed to get the concept of the romanwear. I thought it was kinda like a kilt. We don't have TV way out here in the canyon so I can't watch Spartacus and the like. I'll do a goolge image search and get crackin on it today. I'm thinking of old leather belts from goodwill...

I need more rivets! I grabbed one of those giant Plano EMT crash boxes from a fire truck yesterday. Has an obscene amount of compartments in the fold out trays and a cavernous main compartment. It fits all of my rivetting tooling, mail supplies, metal strips and sheets, patina chems, etc. I love it!

I'll try to put up a pic of the fur vest later.

I love this place. Smooches all!

I took a close look at the picture again and carefully read your comments. I thought it was like a belt-apron over a manskirt. Umm, now I understand the 'tan' part  Oh my again! I dunno if I have the balls to do that :)

If you take a 34 trouser, then yeah I have some that might fit  in colors I don't like that have never been worn, so, no disrespect to your lovely wife.

Just FYI, underwear is supposed to peek out the waistband these days, in fact some of mine have a cute lil ribbon at the center back which is meant to be seen. But I am keeping those!
