First timer from Dallas

Post by LightLinguist » Wed Jun 15, 2011 5:35 am

Hi All

This will be my first time.
I'll be driving from Dallas (Grand Prairie to be exact) if all goes according to plan, with a 10-day course in Vipassana right before Burning Man in North Fork. Planning to do a long slow road trip to get there and see the sights along the way...stopping to take lots of pictures.

Anyone doing the same?

Might be nice to have a travel companion or if you're heading up that way and have room in your car.

I'm a photographer looking for creative opportunities.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Though many camps on the playa frown on being photographed, we have never met a camera we didn't like. So feel free to stop by Barbie Death Camp & Wine Bistro, have a glass of cabernet sauvignon, and shoot away.

Welcome to Eplaya!

Remember to take pictures when you get there!
We tend to photograph the entire trip there, the first day, then things get to busy and everyone forgets they have cameras.

Have fun!

Thanks for all of the replies.

@Dr Pyro I wasn't aware that camps frown on being photographed, but that's usually the case when they have bad pictures taken of themselves. I plan to bring all of my lighting gear and not just show up with a point and shoot camera. I'm planning on getting epic pictures that I'm sure they will love.

@illy dilly
For sure I'll be taking pictures the entire time I'm there.

Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.

It's a little more complicated than that. Many people have had their picture taken and then been put on the web without ever getting the chance to say no. Admittedly, it's more like to happen to young women scantily dressed, but please be sensitive to the fact that attending the event is not the same as signing a model release.
And yes, lots of people come by and take pictures of the barbies.

I'm coming from San Antonio and also plan to take a slow route there, passing through Albuquerque and Las Vegas (staying at Circus Circus for two nights!)

This is going to be awesome.

I'm in Albuquerque; when are you planning on coming through here? I might already be on the road. Let me know!

Jenny

I'll be there Sept 25 and 26 and again on my way back Sept 6.

The way to BRC will be more relaxed and I'll have time to goof off, but returning from BRC, I'll be stopping over between an 8-hour drive and a 12-hour drive. Did I ever mention how much I hate sitting in a car and how tired and stiff it makes me?

I'll be snoring when not rolling.
