Oranges?

I will like to bring a few bags of oranges to burning man mostly to pass out. Also the first day we will have a watermelon thats been soaked in rum to give to the neighbors and I am going to pickle the watermelon rind to give as a treat. Pickled ginger and dried ginger will be on the list also to bring and give away.

Plus some candy.
Are any of these good ideas?

How are you going to deal with the moop? (orange peals and candy wrappers are your responsibility.)

Those are fine ideas, provided you keep enough control over your distribution that people know they can give you the peel or rind when they are done--so they either eat it on your premises, and you provide a trash receptacle, or they are a practiced burner who can assure you they will dispose of it well. I always assume I might have to provide my own trash bin if someone offers me fruit (unless I can determine otherwise).

Wet trash goes best in a mesh bag initially so that it can dry out for a day. The mesh mustn't be so wide a weave as to drop pieces nor so small as to not permit air flow. You don't want to haul lbs and lbs of wet trash out in your car, as many would caution you.

bringing them for yourself is one thing, passing them around might be quite another.

That said, we served ice cold watermelon to camp mates and they were pretty good in taking care of the moop; but we all take the leave no trace policy pretty seriously.

Chill and peel them yourself.
That way you can determine where teh skins go.

Moop issues aside, were it I, I'd go to a pharmacy/medical supply house, get some syringes, then the liquor store for some vodka, fortify those suckers, and throw them in the cooler just to make them a bit more....er, memorable. The one caveat being NEVER, EVER, gift anything potentially mind-altering to anyone but an informed consumer.

I would want to peel my own orange, unless I knew how recently someone had washed their hands.

Those are great ideas.

By the tone of your post, I'm guessing this might be your first year. As many will tell you, you do not need to consume yourself with the idea of gifting, and that you should do it when it feels right. A few thoughtful gifts that follow-up meaningful encounters are much more prized than handing out gifts to everybody that happens to walk by. (Though, I would happily accept one of those rummelon pieces! and "ambushing" passers can be a fun way to meet people the first couple of days. . .)

Those are great ideas.

Yes This is my first time going. Im trying not to worry so much about gifts. Most of it is to meet my neighbors and just give them something they may like. Ice cold pickled ginger and watermelon ruin and be much needed in the heat. So I thought it would be nice and thoughtful instead
of getting a box of glow sticks or something the ppl would end up throwing away.

One way to play with the Orange Rind:

Bend the rind, till you see it spray out the pores. Now, do that about an inch away from a lit lighter.

oranges are awesome, bring some to our camp

We put all compostable waste (fruit rinds, coffee ground, etc.) into a cardboard box, let it dry, then burn it at the end of the week

An alternative to real oranges, mandarin orange fruit cups.

Bury them in the cooler for a tasty cold treat to hurl at passer bys.

Friends of ours own a grove and bring a ton of oranges every year. The quarted them and carry a net bag..people scoop them up and eat them then put the rind in the bag to dry and burn later. easy peasy
