Propane Delivery

Post by Silver Sparrow » Wed Jun 29, 2011 2:17 pm

Has anyone had occasion or experience with having propane delivered to their camp on the playa? Or know of such a service? Have heard many rumours of this being available, but never gotten a confirmation or contact info.

thanks.

Do you have a large theme camp or art installation that needs several large tanks of propane daily? If the answer to that question is no, then there is no propane delivery for you.

Theme camp yes, medium size. We would only need tanks refilled midweek.

Silver Sparrow, did you ever get a response or figure out a solution? I'm in the same boat. I'm guessing we'll burn at least 15, probably 20 tanks of propane. I really don't want to haul all of that in, set up a safety zone, etc.

No confirmation about organized service, just a suggestion to try and coordinate with another camp that might be bringing in an excess of supply.

What you may want to plan for is for one or two of your campmates to make a propane run mid-week, which involves putting on regular clothes, having tickets in hand, and then driving to the gate. Check there with the gate staff (in case a re-entry stamp is needed), and then drive on out to Gerlach to get your additional supplies (you may have to go to the next town, depending on how well Gerlach is supplied). There's a nominal charge, I believe $25-$50 per person, and they have to return on the same day.

The propane dealer in Gerlach will not deliver propane to the Event with the exception of filling the two BM propane trucks. All the information you were given above is correct. Unless you are a funded artist or using a lot of propane (150 gallons a day or more) there is no propane delivery on the Playa. At this time the two trucks are at their capacity just servicing the Art and infrastructure. I would suggest contacting Granite Propane in Gerlach. John Forster is the owner. You can find out their hours of operation. Perhaps if you coop with another camp or Mutant Vehicle that needs propane you can reduce the in/out fees.
Those who think they can and those who think they can't are both right.
