Portapotty Rental
For those that have done this, have you experienced any downsides to it? Did it cause a smell in the camp? I know we will need to secure it lest it just be another public one, but want to make sure if a segment of our camp gets one it will not have any adverse effects on the others. Thanks.

Re: Portapotty Rental
They are pricey. Last year the rates were
$400.00 per toilet
Includes one clean out.
One toilet with one cleaning can support 10 people, possibly 15
Additional clean outs $100.00 each.

Thanks for the replies..
I am fine with the rates, my biggest concern is will it cause a smell noticeable more than 10-15' away..

Interesting. That wasn't the price I was quoted, which was the main reason we decided not to rent them last year.CapSmashy wrote:Additional pumps are $25.jkisha wrote:They are pricey. Last year the rates were

We didn't any problems, but we were having our bank of 4 pumped out near daily. We goofed it and put a solid tarp over them for shade which trapped the smell occasionally under it, but that was our fault. Going to use shade fabric this year.Hondovious wrote:Thanks for the replies..

$25 per pump, per unit.jkisha wrote:Interesting. That wasn't the price I was quoted, which was the main reason we decided not to rent them last year.
Our 4 bank was $100 a service last year since we were having all 4 serviced at once.

Re: Portapotty Rental
Also, those rates my or may not have increased this year.
And yes, USS has you over a barrel for porta potty rentals. I rent them for jobsites locally here in the Dallas area and typically pay around $80 for the month for a single unit that includes a weekly service.
The alternative to USS is Sani-Hut. Sani-hut offers bigger tanks and in our experience much nicer facilities than USS. The ones we had last year from USS looked like they came from a third world construction site. The primary drawback to Sani-Hut that makes them not much of an alternative? Try finding a Sani-Hut pump truck by Friday to service your potties. They are great the first part of the week, but once their trucks are full, they leave, never to be seen again. We got burned 2 years in a row by Sani-Hut and last year by Thursday or so I saw signs on all of the Sani-Hut units requesting service. SH was long gone by then. Oh yeah, you also have to haul them there and back to Reno on your own.
If you pay enough, a USS driver might show some basic human compassion and suck out your full Sani-Hut rental so you can tow it back to Reno, but that is a big maybe as they can get in trouble for even sucking out a non-USS unit.

Re: Portapotty Rental
Our friends camp had Sani Huts last year, they NEVER found the Sani Hut pumper. United flat out refused to pump them. A) because they weren't theirs and B)it was too far for them to reach. (the camp collected enough money to get pumped, they should've just gone with USS to begin with) It was a stenchy mess by Thursday. On that note if you do bring porto's out there. Make sure they are 30' or closer to the road. The pump trucks won't be able to reach you if they are further in. This goes the same for RV's.

Re: Portapotty Rental
Either close to the road or leave an alley wide enough for the pump truck to pull into in front of the units.

Re: Portapotty Rental
We had two (one boys, on girls) in 2009 for a small-ish camp (maybe 20-30 people I think?) and they were great up until about the last day when they started to get a little smelly, but no still perfectly acceptable to use and not smelly from the outside. We locked them and camp members had keys and people were very good about keeping them locked and cleaning up after themselves.
