mail in outbox, how to send
I have a message in my pm outbox and it seems to be kinda stuck there, in that I am unable to send it. I edited and resubmitted and it went back into the outbox. I would think there is probably a faq on the issue but....

Re: mail in outbox, how to send
I brought up the same issue yesterday in the new eplaya thread. Evidently, if it tells you to the right of the subject, that it was sent with a time stamp, it will be sent upon the next "cycle". I guess it dumps all PM's at a given interval of time. The message that was in my Outbox yesterday is dwelling in the Sentbox today.

Re: mail in outbox, how to send
I thought that they sit in your Outbox until they're picked up (i.e. the receiver actually opens them) and then they're moved to Sent.
Is this no longer the case?? (or maybe even never was?)
My weird thing with my Outbox is that I recently received a message -- my inbox was at 100% full -- and it required that I empty some space before I could open it. When I DID clear some space, it was delivered to my outbox. Which I found a bit odd.
Edited to add: And by "recently" I mean yesterday, so in these new digs.

Re: mail in outbox, how to send
I want to see if there is a way to dump mail from my inbox to my saved box, and can I add more mail boxes. At this point it looks like a person can save up to 200 messages that they have sent. In todays massive data world that really only takes up a couple kbytes so to me it could be expanded to let us save more or our pm's,
Ok, so I have this message in my outbox. Typically when I compose a pm and submit it, the pm is sent at that time to the user designated. At least that is what seems to happen. Then the user I sent mail to can replay right away to my mail. Humm, i dont got no socks, perhaps I can test a mail to myself. Oh, as I was gonna say at the start of this paragraph was I went and cut and pasted the pm into a new one, same user and subject. hit submit and now I have 2 pieces of mail in my outbox. hummm...

Re: mail in outbox, how to send
I believe the previous system had the item sit in your outbox until it was opened by the recipient, then it moved to "sent". It was a little unnerving at first.
As far as I know, the new version is the same, because the one or two items languishing in the outbox are still there.

So i went and did a test send to myself and watched the pm go into outbox, then into inbox. I tried again to this user and again the mail is sitting in the outbox. I think it is failing approval as if maybe that user has plonked me. Oh well, how embarassing

Re: mail in outbox, how to send
I still have messages that seem to take a really long time hanging around in my outbox before moving to my sent box. Although they clearly say "sent and the day and time". Anyone have the short and sweet of what happens when I click on submit, is there some kind of vetting process done by computer?

Re: mail in outbox, how to send
Typically the bbs software will allow the sysop's to set user level's that can be very different for different users. Mine, which is probably default for users is 100 messages fills up any mail box. I have not "tested" the system to see how that might be expanded within the limations that have been set, but it looks like there are rules that could be imposed to make the pm's move smoothly from inbox to saved box., etc.

As far as I know this is exactly how it works. I've had some PM's sit there for years, then checked & found out the recipient hadn't been on eplaya for that whole time so I deleted them. I've got a couple floating there now, but only for a short time.
As soon as the recipient opens them they move to your Sent box (which is kinda creepy, but lets you know if they got it at least). I don't know what happens if the recipient either:
a) deletes them unopened
b) is blocked by you (if that's possible in this version- I'm not sure)
I'm also set for a 100 Message max. in the inbox.

it's explained in the post above yours.
But,short answer:
it sits in your "outbox", until the recipient reads it.
Once they open it, it's moved to "sent".

Points for looking up the right thread to reply to, but negative points for not reading the posts in it before posting
They'll sit and gather dust in the outbox until they get read. On the other hand, it sort of serves as a read receipt system.

Not really, at least potentially not very accurately.
IIRC both the sender's Outbox and the receiver's new message indicator (up top by the User Control Panel link) are cleared when the receiver opens the Inbox irregardless (hi JK!) of whether the individual PM is opened or not. AFAIK it's a phpBB thing as I notice it on other boards as well.
Although why one would open the Inbox and not the individual PM is another matter entirely.
