Hello All,
So, my brother decided to schedule his wedding for Labor Day weekend...bastard. So rather than not go to BM or not go to the wedding I'm going to try to do both. Before I buy a flight from Reno to Kansas (he's marrying a preacher's daughter) I want to know people think it will be possible to find a ride to Reno on Friday September 2nd. Are there any regular trips to Reno? Ice trucks? think I could just stand at the gate and find a ride in the morning?
thanks for any advice,
Ben

That's a tall order, but, not impossible.chester44 wrote:Hello All,

Pretty much every day, someone, is going to Reno, usually quite a few.
some delivery people, some participants, but, someone.
You might have better luck thumbing in Gerlach, or at least the Gerlach side of the main entrance, in that not everyone goes in and out the main gate.
good luck.

Hi Chester.
I'm glad you're going to do both; the early part of the Burn can be even more fun than Burn Weekend (depending on your nature). Or at least, they are fun in different ways.
You might try listing yourself on the http://rideshare.burningman.com page once it updates to 2011. (Any day now . . . maybe). I don't know if it will help (because--as partial Burns go--early departure is more rare than late arrival) but it can't hurt to try.
There is a shuttle into Gerlach if you decide to try hitching from there instead of from the Gate (I'm not sure what I would do).

. . . And have a little cash so you can offer gas money, although if you're lucky, they will refuse.

Re: Early Departure
No guarantees, but I've known folks who've just gone out to the playa exit road (that's right, the road you came into camp on) with a sign and all have scored rides. Just give yourself plenty of time and make sure you have water and maybe a small umbrella for shade if it's a long wait.
Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.
No Problem
Just tell your brother that you stood on the highway for hours and could not get a ride. Enjoy the burn.

50% or better of marriages end in divorce - so just catch the next one.
