Label Your Stuff! Lost and Found on the Playa

Post by kiki » Fri Jul 01, 2011 8:00 pm

Check out this good advice from your friends at Playa Info:

Every year thousands of items are lost (and found!) on the Playa. We volunteers at Playa Info try our best to reunite items with their owners, and there are steps you can take pre- and on-playa to help!

Prevention is the best cure. Consider putting a label or a luggage tag on anything precious. Include name, phone number, email address and playa camp location. Write up your info on a sheet of paper and take a photograph with your camera, and leave image as the first one in your photo set. Take address labels with you to BRC so you can tag everything you forgot or didn't think you needed to tag. The mighty wind can whisk away the most essential items, including tarps and sleeping bags. Label everything! Consider leaving very precious items at home: your childhood bike, your great-grandmother's ring, or that special item of clothing that means so much to you. Finally, check your ID! Many passports and driving licenses are sent back to the owner every year, only to be returned because the owner has moved on. Write your current address in permanent ink on your ID.

While at the event, turn in found items to Playa Info in Center Camp. If you're on the move and not headed 'downtown', roaming Playa Info Ambassadors are happy to collect found items and return with them to Center Camp. Flag down the cyclists/pedestrians with the blue flags marked "i" for 'Info'. We keep up return efforts long after we leave the playa (until ticket sales begin for next year), so don't despair if you don't get your stuff back right away... we work hard and keep trying to reunite, because it feels sooooo good. :)

See you on the playa!

Donate money to a charity once, and you'll have tiny sticky address labels for life.

Goodness, Kiki. That was a goodly amount of really REALLY good advice. I hadn't thought to label the stuff I'd leave at camp... but really.... you never know, do you. I also really love the idea of photographing an information sheet as the first pic on the camera. So much more information can go in there!!!

THANK YOU for all you do. It's a huge job and (like all of them out there) HUGELY appreciated, I'm sure.

(hoping not to have to experience it on the other end --- but glad to have the glimmer of hope if I do!)

Then passed right by- And never knew.”

Also, don't forget to carry ID on yourself as well in case you are found entwined in the trash fence
Excuse me Ma'am, your going to feel a small prick.

Those found against the trash fence are Soylent Green. Providing they have not dried out to dust..

First off..DO NOT take anything you can not afford to lose.. I'm am not going to walk to a lost and found with your shit.. I am out there partying and playing.. Not keeping track of your stuff.. If I do find something of yours, I will haul it home and post in lost and found.. If I find your key chain in the dust.. I will leave it off to the side of the road.. You can sober up enough to retrace your steps and pick them up..
I KNOW it's all cute and everything to go naked.. Or you don't want to have anything messing up your costume.. But carry a Little utility belt around your cute ass.. I even have retractable lanyards on my canes.. They cost 35$ per.. Any ass fining one of them would keep it..

Don't take it, Bolt it down in camp, Lock it to some thing heavy or carry it in a pack on your person..

Don't want to mess up your naked costume?? Write your vitals on your arm with a marking pen..

I plan on volling with perimeter. If I find you entwined in the fence, do you want me to undo you, or just leave you some water?

Just some water. I've got to learn my lesson some time.

To be honest, the only time I've ever woken up somewhere atypical at the Burn I'd been stone-cold sober to begin with, and wearing a virtual-reality mask with pretty, so-called "energizing" flashing lights at a stranger's camp. I was out in 60 seconds, & someone covered me with a blanket and I slept 'til dawn.
