Well, no headache here, but.......
I liked it just the way it was, had no issues with it.
Now I've lost all my old pm's I had saved, and my buddy list (ok, so it only had 2-3 people on it
) but I was cool with it..
I guess I'll just immerse myself in giddy anticipation of the burn and hope that this new version grows on me.

Re: Old Eplaya
There are things that are missing here that were so important. I'm trying to make this work without being a whiny baby. The color contrast is big thing. I am having a hard tome seeing between posts. Also, if I see a post I like and want to respond, I have to go to the beginning and login before getting back where I want.
I really, really, really want to see the thread of the last topic that was posted. I feel like I have to go into every spot to see what's happening.
My brains are starting to drip out of my ears. I know that all the small issues can be addressed with some programming options.
I will say that I have not been on here as much as I have in the past---mostly because of the difficulty in maneuvering.
I am glad that the upgrade was done, and that all the posts and archived info was saved. But now it needs to be fine tuned to work like the old eplaya.
Spanky did and awesome job with the conversion, and will just some minor tweaks, we will have our old, comfy home back!!!

I am reminding myself that the adjustment period for me on stuff like this tend to be a couple of weeks. I compare it to being able to eavesdrop in another language. At first it's very difficult.

After having some time to really use it...
Color scheme hurts the eyes.
Avatars on the right is flat out weird.
Seeing the Google and Yahoo bots down there on the user list freaks me out.
Still the old board did need updating. For the admins you're damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I like the ability to edit - even if it has been a long time. Bravo on that.
It would be interesting to see how it would be if this format was the one being replaced with the old format. I'm not certain, but I suspect the same people would be complaining.
I'd like to see the BBCode disabled as a default.
Ooh, I just saw the "upload attachment." I'll try that to see what it does. Ah, file is too big. Oh well.

Dunno about that... and I'm not sure I'd call it complaining really.... more commenting on what could be bettered, as was asked of us.
Seems to me that contrast is a big thing for many. I know that the first 3 days or so I thought I'd probably not be coming in very often anymore because I found it very irritating.
-had to really pay attention to where one post started and ended (really hard for me to see) and
-not enough contrast between type and background.
Then I discovered the change font size icon up over the login, and that made it better enough to where I'm not feeling quite as frustrated.
I still have some navagational issues that I'm sure I'll get used to soon enough (that much I expected). But being unable to READ and differentiate between peoples' separate posts is a bit of a drawback in a forum.
(and I understand and appreciate the thought of "friendly" type over "formal" type (love the font for that) and realize that may have been the thought behind the choice of grey over black --- but maybe it could be just a tad darker?

I'm also quite sure that the tweekers are paying attention to all our comments, waiting to get a really clear picture of what the experience is for us before turning all the appropriate dials...
'Cause the only thing worse than NOT changing something that sucks is having to keep readjusting as that sucky thing gets changed 26 different times!
But again.... the only way they can know if it sucks is if we tell them. Right???
(which has me wondering if a poll wouldn't be in order containing options of things that COULD be tweeked, if "how many really find this to be true" is an issue.)

Re: Old Eplaya
Its a little weird to get used to, and I've just started (I'm not sure when they switched it- last week?)
Strangest thing for me is the avatars on the right- I've never been on any forum like that, and it makes it a pain in the ass to figure out who's post you're reading. It's not the way the American eye is trained to look at information (I have a couple of Israeli & Arabic friends who would probably find it more natural for themselves)
LOVE the ability to highlight a word/ phrase & apply formatting to it! Oh that makes things easier. The choices of colors now available are also fantastic- Simon should have a blast with those.

Re: Old Eplaya
I really only have three things I don't like.
The color change hasn't been all that noticeable to me, except how grey and dark "new posts" is, after I click on it for the first time of the day.
1. Auto-picture sizing would be great.
2. We can't edit our posts?? I didn't even notice - I mean, mine are so perfect the first go-round, but still.
3. Profile changing. I'm not even sure how this new one works, I sort of figured it out accidentally after the intial upgradge. Seems a simple "profile" button that goes to a simple page where we can make simple changes would be simple, instead of the current complicated multi-page system.

I am having a hard time getting used to the highlighting effect of the cursor when scrolling down the index page. When using the scrolling wheel on my mouse to move down the page, the highlighted posts throw me off. I miss black lines between things, indicators of where posts stop and start, black letters on the index indicating the originator of the thread, and the current poster.

Pretty sure in the previous version you could use any valid color name eg "color=Magenta" or "color=CornflowerBlue".Eric wrote:LOVE the ability to highlight a word/ phrase & apply formatting to it! Still looks shitty on a spoiled avocado background, so why bother.

Re: Old Eplaya
It would work with some colors but not all. This version has lovely little boxes of colors to let you know exactly will work. Agree about the avocado background...Bob wrote:Pretty sure in the previous version you could use any valid color name eg "color=Magenta" or "color=CornflowerBlue".Eric wrote:LOVE the ability to highlight a word/ phrase & apply formatting to it! Re: Old Eplaya
All in all the upgrade was disappointing to say the least, and this is after understanding and learninghow everything works. The problem is that "how things work" isn't at all how they "should" work. Very disappointing indeed

It's good to be forced to learn something new once in a while. Keeps the old brain fresh.
I would like to remove that "Save" button from the bottom; that's where the "Submit" button used to be. I can't tell you how many times I have accidentally saved a draft, and who needs that?
It would be good if clicking on a link went to a new tab, not a new window. Easy enough to fix that.

I would like to know what thread the "Last Post" was in vs. just knowing who posted.
If they're just going to roll out changes and not listen to or more importantly act on the feedback then maybe it's time to go somewhere else.

With all respect to Packoderm, I'm not sure unlimited time to edit a post is such a good idea, especially in some of the more contentious threads. I just now altered one of my posts I made three days ago. I suppose I could have changed it to shed an unflattering light, or twist the meaning of other posts that already follow... not my cup of tea, just sayin'..
..or perhaps we should get used to a different, nonlinear paradigm.
(I'm a novice at these kinds of forums though, is unlimited edit time common?)
