Last year, I spent an entire day building a baffle box for our genset and never used it on the playa! Partly because it wasn't as noisy as we anticipated and partly because it was easily tucked between vehicles which mitigated its nuisance factor.

Thanks trishntek. I was starting to do a bit of handwringing over this but then I realized I can structure my camp so that there will be plenty of natural "baffles". between it and other campers.

FOUR feet tall pyramid. Insulated with fire-resistant egg crate foam. Without the foam it is definitely an amplifier.

In 2004, I came back to my camp after the burn and my generator had been "staged" for theft. It was put out by the edge of the road so the thief could come back later. I waited in the dark for about 30 minutes. No dice.

Now I chain it to my rig. No real attempt to hide. Just not in a prominant place. People that steal stuff are mostly going for easy stuff, I would assume. Chains make them move on.

Get a black morphsuit and prowl around on Burn Night and look for criminals.....

I definitely felt like mine was too loud, despite having what was essentially a soft wall up around it. and used it sparingly. I'm DEFINITELY making some kind of better baffling or silencing for it this year.
