First time burner from LA :)

Post by dandelion » Wed Jul 06, 2011 12:20 pm

Hi there! It's so nice to meet you all!

I'm beyond excited to attend BM this year. I've got most things on my supplies list crossed off, I'm almost ready to go! Just now getting to sketching my costumes. I'm looking to possibly camp with some sort of awesome girl troupe. I'm a graphics designer and also love working on creative stuff with my hands, so if there's an art installation you need help with - perfect! 8)

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

Have questions? Read this first: http://www.burningman.com/first_timers/
Everybody on eplaya is always excited to help first timers; but in sympathy for some of us old timers, please get your required reading out of the way before posting. As hard as it is to rein in the the excitement and enthusiasm, and as unbelievable as it might seem, most of your questions have already been asked and answered, if you just take a moment to read.

Now, let the adventure begin!

Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Hi. And welcome. :D I'm in LA, too. It's nice to be so relatively close to the playa.
Finally moving to SF...can't WAIT!

You don't have to if ya don't want to!

I was trying to be all fancy and philosophical.
Do you fill more like "go with the breeze" or "right and sunny" type.
(I don't try it very often, and there is a reason, lol)

The playa itself is pretty damned clean, between the efforts the good citizens put in during/at the end of the event, and the months-long work of the Department of Public Works (there is also a trash fence, and a mechanism for scanning for lost rebar, etc). Which is not to say there aren't a few errant tutus blowing like tumbleweeds several miles out . . . and some knaves with poorly secured loads atop their vehicles (or just dirty ways) who dump their trash in inappropriate places accidentally or purposefully.

It helps to never let things hit the ground, and to bring trash bags & gloves (even keep a small bag in your packpack) so you can pick up as you go . . . and make a really good final sweep.

Like Savannah said, the place is pretty clean. I'd say it is cleaner when we leave than it was when we got there. Other campers that use the playa all year round are not held the the strict LNT plans that Burning Man is.
I bet folks have huge bonfires and don't clean them up.

Shit, I know in CO people beat hell out of the Great Sand Dunes every year. Only in the last 5-7 years have the rules changed about what you're allowed to do down there. But, because of its elevation it also gets wiped clean every year by feet of snow, then the rapid spring melt and river that forms at the North East side.
