First Timer from Fort Worth

Post by Lady Valentine » Wed Jun 29, 2011 7:03 am

Hello everyone,

I'm from the Dallas / Fort Worth area and have lived all over but I keep coming back here. :)

This is the first time that I go to a burn and luckily I am going with a friend of mine who has been before but we are meeting there. I am super excited to meet new people and have all the experiences that are in store for me while there.

I do have one question though, when people fly there how do they take all their stuff like camping gear, bikes, etc..

Did you look this up at all before posting? If you read the BM website, search this message board and just google it you'll get a plethora of answers.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

Have questions? Read this first: http://www.burningman.com/first_timers/
Everybody on eplaya is always excited to help first timers; but in sympathy for some of us old timers, please get your required reading out of the way before posting. As hard as it is to rein in the the excitement and enthusiasm, and as unbelievable as it might seem, most of your questions have already been asked and answered, if you just take a moment to read.

Now, let the adventure begin!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Hey there! I'm new too and trying to figure out if I should go this year. I have a few friends but no one I know too well. What made you take the plunge?

They pack primarily goggles, footwear, costumes, coat . . . pick up a rental car . . . buy stuff in Reno, Las Vegas, or Klamath Falls (googling the many well-prepared stores beforehand) . . . and sometimes they sleep in a hotel before or after the shopping. Because the Burn is only 2 hours from Reno, 5 hours from Klamath Falls, or 8? hours drive from Vegas + 3 hours (on average) wait in line to get in, plus set-up time. :)

Howdy! We're in Funky Town too and glad to see more Texans than usual this year. Stop by Terminal City at the Booby Bar on Tuesday evening and say hello.
Suck it.

Woohoo! More Texans! Welcome to Eplaya. If you are going to rent a car get it locked down now, from what i read they are going fast.

Welcome to ePlaya!

Everyone has made great suggestions as to the best way to get your stuff to or in Reno/Klamath Falls/Vegas.
I personally have no idea how they pull it off. Seems impossible.

I'm surprised Savannah didn't give you the bit about taking a train. But it seems like it could be a very good idea. Another idea would be to have stuff shipped to someplace, and pick it up there.
