We have that very same issue with ours. One repair guy says replace the whole unit, one says replace this one little part. So far, if it works on propane, we are saying done.illy dilly wrote:Not so much an 'item' as much as a task.
There is still some sort of VAC issue with the fridge. Doesn't get real cold on 120 VAC, but it does get cold on propane. So what ever, it works on the road.

Re: One Item for BM a Day

Newb finished and provisioned camp sink today. Water tote over a Rubbermaid basin with rubber stopper drain fashioned in bottom. Basin drains into the top tote with hole cut in lid to rest basin. Stocking attached to drain to filter big stuff from gray water. Water to be treated with Clorox and disposed of in 5 gallon pail with holes drilled in pail bottom, to act like sprinkler, to water playa. Camp sink is for a 2 person camp with pending food permit. Very pleased to find Kleenex makes paper hand towels in cardboard dispenser which is bunged to bottom of water tote shelf. The 5 gallon pail shall double as waste basket with garbage bag liner. Maybe 90 percent ready to pack and go!

Beautiful!

Re: One Item for BM a Day
That's a damn cool sink! Are the containers connected to each other at all? My concern would just be it being top heavy in the high wind.
Also (now please bear with me, 2011 will be my first burn!) but I thought we were discouraged from sprinkling grey water on the playa which is why folks setup those large grey water evaporating pools.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Camps of fewer than 5 may bleach treat their remaining grey water and sprinkle it. See the FAQ, 2/3 of the way down the page:
http://www.burningman.com/environment/r ... water.html
As a camp of one, I build the evaporation pond in that link and evaporate virtually all my water, but if there are dregs, I have bleach and a watering can and I treat the water and then sprinkle it in the street to keep the dust down.
Your mindfulness as a virgin is appreciated, waxpraxis. You are already more knowledgeable than I was my first year. (On the last day of the 2000 Burn, desperate not to travel dirty in the car, I improvised a 5am public shower with a gallon of water. Rookie mistake . . . though at least entertaining to anyone who got to watch).

Savannah – Just a thank you for the fun educator you are in your posts, so much to learn!Savannah wrote:Camps of fewer than 5 may bleach treat their remaining grey water and sprinkle it.
Waxpraxis thanks for your concerns. We have been kind of getting ready for our virgin burn for a long time, years, we have been making stuff, outfitting and packing for the past 18 months. On the sink- the totes are rigid and distribute weight pretty well and just stack but stable. Bottom totes shall have weight. Sink shall be in our bar which can become a walled tent.waxpraxis wrote: Are the containers connected to each other at all? My concern would just be it being top heavy in the high wind.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Savannah, thanks for the correction! I missed that one - time for yet another read-through it seems!
A long time ago I was a pretty serious boy scout and did a lot of leave-no-trace camping. That being said, I fully realize the forests of the Appalachian mountains aren't exactly comparable to the playa so I'm doing my damnest to research everything I possibly can! Also, I feel the need to make this trip as comfortable as possible for my wife - she hasn't camped much and this trip is to celebrate our 10th anniversary!
I have to say tootsybean - I am damn jealous of the sink! I wish we were able to drive out there and thus build a slightly less spartan camp.
As for the purpose of the thread, last night I ordered everything to build/test my radiative cooler idea and today will be ordering our camelbaks.

While MyLarry was home sick/no work available, he sorted, cleaned, recharged, tested and repaired our boxes of lights and solar lights, plus sorted out the coat closets. I alternated between moaning and supervising.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Got final acceptances for all 14 of my shifts and confirmation of my EA through gate on the 20th. Picked up a few cute items from etsy (goat horns, a belt bag, some bloomers...etc.). Found a place for my kitty to stay for 3 weeks...I THINK. Put in my order for gate gear. In general, it was a burn productive day.
Finally moving to SF...can't WAIT!
Re: One Item for BM a Day
Gross & useful tip: I've had a murderous hangnail for the past few days--the sturdy kind on the thumbnail, which gets pushed around all the more and therefore hurts--and finally stopped @#$%ing around, trimmed off the moving piece of cuticle, disinfected and then sealed the wound with water-resistant/waterproof Liquid Bandage. It stays on through numerous hand-washings--which is why I didn't want a band-aid on it--and is delightful in a Playa 1st Aid Kit. (Even in work gloves, my cuticles get beaten to hell and back every year, and by the time set-up is finished, my hands need repair.)
This stuff is wonderful for very small, shallow, minor scrapes & wounds that band-aids prove inconvenient for.

WTF is with you? Sweetpea is seriously thinking of putting a contract out on you for your incredible awesomeness and its ability to induce uncontrollable swooning in me. Can't wait to see you and yours! *Smooches*
Savannah:
Did you say "Camp of One"? Impossible! Unless it is by choice. Even then, I am having trouble believing that you could fend all comers away from your bad self... (shakes head then scratches it with hind leg)
ME!:
5 Strings of hollow metal beads that look like mildly tarnished sterling
Polished big stone beads
3 strings of wooden beads that look like unshelled nuts
Jewelry findings; clasps, lobster clamps, sterling jump rings, 18k gold plated hammered sterling doughnuts, pendants, charms, crystals, blah blah blah...
A small vinyl "Beavers" cheerleading outfit
5 large pieces of thin black leather with weird unique natural pattern of some kind
Gingham fabric drawstring gift bags with tarnished blank copper tags to stamp the giftee's name on
Roll of 3M reflective tape (conspicuity tape!)
200 googly eyes (clear with the black dot that jiggles around when I jump up and down with them...)
Puffy bubble type stickers
A pocket size acid-free journal for memories, names-numbers-addresses, etc.
A bunch of those shaky-shaky powder hand warmers
Strings of teensy weensy rice bulb xmas lights
2 bags of the bigest darned marshmallows I've ever seen. They're like 2 inches in diameter and 2 1/2 inches long!
I stopped by the electronic - industrial - mechanical surplus store and bought a bunch of other stuff but that would make this post insanely long.
Suffice it to say I had waaay more fun than the law allows.
I'm gonna hafta repair the holes in the ceiling, too much bouncing and 'yaying'.
Whew! Time for a nap!

Slice it along the seams, or, if there aren't any, in convenient places. Add grommets and lace the new split areas to fit. Just leave the skin bare where the laces are, if you're comfortable like that.
Should make a fantastic & just slightly creep outfit. Perfect.

So excited. My ticket came in the mail today !!! Also began my hair prep. Original color was a black I've had the last year. I stripped the color last night and today returned it to my fave shade of ridiculously brigh auburn. I now need to trim it up and shave the back (undercut) in readiness for installing dread extensions. They will also be auburn. I should be looking playa beautiful by the time I am ready to pack up and hit the road for BRC!

Working on the buying stuff for when I hit the States.
Has anyone had any experience with doing the Walmart Ship-to-Store thing? I want to buy a GPS and they seem cheaper if you buy them on-line. All advice gratefully accepted
