I'm looking for the branding guy.

Post by Rilling » Mon Jun 27, 2011 3:16 pm

Does anyone know how I might contact the man who was branding folks at 4:30 and B last year? I love my brand and so does my camp mate Hey You, but we failed to get contact info. We are Lamplighters and Hey You has come up with a Lamplighter brand. (Don't worry you don't have to be branded to come out and light the lamps with us, only for those who want one.)

This was REAL branding, glowing iron and sizzling flesh, permanent brand. I wish we could find the guy again.

You should bring some Silver Sulfadiazine. Its this white paste that is commonly used for 2nd and 3rd degree burns. Its just Anit Bacterial enough to still allow burned skin to shed and regrow, but keep germs out.

Did you pill the cauterized skin off after the brand or leave it?
I've heard different theories on leaving the skin on or removing it. Some say that since the skin will start to rot, since it is dead, it should be removed. Other say that since it creates a protective barrier against bacteria it should be left on.
There are two major things you want to look for after a 2nd and 3rd degree burns.
1. A few days after the burn, does it smell bad. Not just like burning hair/skin but like nasty meat. If so, it means that it is mildly infected.
2. If you poke down on the scab, near edges where it has dried and pulled away from the skin, does a yellowish, brown, or deep red thick fluid come out. If so, it is infected. The scab should be removed, and a sterile topic barrier should be applied. Silver Sulfadiazine is recommended, but clean Vaseline works too. Then the burn should be covered with sterile gauze and taped up. Neosporen should not be used under the gauze, because it will keep new skin cells from forming. Rubbing alcohol should only be used on the burn immediately after the burn, other wise it will have the same effect as Neosporen.

Thats the bit of info I've learned about dealing with 2nd and 3rd degree burns.

Somehow, illy, that post reminds me of the tunneling wounds in my leg.
