Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

Have questions? Read this first: http://www.burningman.com/first_timers/
Everybody on eplaya is always excited to help first timers; but in sympathy for some of us old timers, please get your required reading out of the way before posting. As hard as it is to rein in the the excitement and enthusiasm, and as unbelievable as it might seem, most of your questions have already been asked and answered, if you just take a moment to read.

Now, let the adventure begin!

Buy and bring a cheap one that you don't mind if it gets ruined.

Wonderful that you are bringing a guitar -- as opposed to computer!

Hi Subliminalkick! Welcome to the board.

The sand at the Burn is really a powdery dust, and it will indeed get anywhere and everywhere. Lots of us have cheap or cheerfully weathered items that we use only for the playa, because a lot of things (instruments especially) are too nice to use out there unless you're looking to collect a desert patina as a permanent souvenir. If you can't clean something in a washing machine, with a hose, a swiffer, or some swipes with vinegar or lemon juice dampened rag, anything you bring out there will (pretty generally) become a Playa Thing forever. :) Not always a bad thing, if you are emotionally prepared for it.

It's also good to label mobile items . . . instruments, cameras, bikes . . . with your name and email address and (after you get there) your Burn address (for example: "7:55 and Graduation, West side of street").

If you leave the hatch up all the time, you'll never get all the dust out of your car ever again.

I'd be worried about the stress on the hatch door with things attached to it in high wind. The humidity on the other hand, well it doesn't exist. -- Since your from Cincinnati you might want to hook up with the southern ohio burners. You can find them by joining the mailing list at, regionals.burningman.com

Hey SubliminalKick Welcome to eplaya!

I'd love to play some hacky sack with you at some point!
And better yet, our camp is going to have a 24' Diameter 3V dome, so a little over 12' tall in the middle. We can play hacky sack in the shade during the day!
Woo Hoooo.

We tried our first year, but our shade was not tall enough, and playing in the blaring sun didn't last long!

Theft is rare but tends to be opportunistic in character. Taking it off and watching is almost certainly going to be enough.
There is advice on acoustic instruments on playa. You'll have to search for it. It might help to google violin or viola with that. I believe that keeping a damp sponge in the case was one of the tricks, but I"ve forgotten for sure.
Yeah, I have some Aloe Vesta that comes with me. Although I also have a friend who loves washing hair within our city.

Make sure you have your contact info on/in your pack in case it wanders off. It may find its way to lost and found and it helps them if your name, address and so on is on it.

okie doke heres the DL from my local fedex------all branches do pick up but only hold it for 5 days then they do return ahhh
so you wold have to time the delivery with your travel expectations shipping there then =your travel time

im flying so if it takes 5 day to ship you get the picture

ups is alittle diffirent each branch is indapendtly owned so i know you can ship to them you would just have to call

my local branch will hold item indefinatly but charge 5$ a day for a waiting item they said some do that some dont
ups might be a better option if your paranoid and willing to pay a few extra bucks
hope this helps :-)
