Tapping in to the Burn!
Tapping in to the Burn!
Man, you guys are a powerful bunch. :)
There is a huge collective of energy surrounding this event. I have just begun my preparations to go this year for the first time... and in doing so, have tapped in to the vibe of the Burn. It's pretty intense -- and still a month out! I can just imagine (or rather, perhaps I really can't) just how insane it can get.
In reading around this forum, I came across a thread in which a fellow "virgin" said he'd already begun dreaming about Burning Man, and he'd yet to attend. Well... I have to say... I dreampt about the playa all last night!
Not really much of a thread, I know. But I just wanted to let you all know... I can feel it and it's pretty incredible. Let's make 2004 Burning Man rock the house!!!
cheers, joya

Wipe that smirk off your face, maggot, and listen up. You want expectations? I'll give you two... Wind and dust on a titanic scale. You can fuckin' count on that. Sunny weather, hot days, gentle nights, etc.; ain't gonna happen... Get that through your empty head now, maggot. If, and I mean if, any of that does happen; fine and dandy, go fly your freak flag. But I want to see if you can fly it in the wind and dust, too. Maggot.
It's the uniform; at least some of it anyway. That, and all the hours buy you a lot of slack, mister. Stu's got his Camp Hi. Bob's got the DPW and those massively huge worms to deal with. Me, I give people in walk-in directions to the nearest portapottie - I point to the airport.
Coincidence that we end up here in Joya's thread?[/i]

One thing you can count on with the weather on the playa is that you cant expect it to do anything remotely predictable. I go out there for two weeks to help out and just because its been warm and no wind the first week doesnt mean its going to stay that way the rest of the time. There have been years where the weather was perfect all week long, only to turn to absolute shit on the day everyone was trying to clean up.Sensei wrote: You want expectations? I'll give you two... Figure on hot days, relatively cool to cold nights, and random storms that blow through without notice.
Being prepared is not just a boy scout slogan. Its a pretty damn good idea when camping on the playa. I pack thermals every year and am quite happy when they dont get used. But you just never know.

The closer it gets, the less I seem to be capable of explaining to people where I'm going. I've just been trying to dispell the "isn't it a big drug hippie orgy" and changing it into "it's a big art thing, you have to be totaly self sufficient, and there's no commerce". People are quite intrigued by the no commerce part.or rather, perhaps I really can't
go with this one
I think I was more excited a couple months ago. August is a month with lots of stuff going on for me, including a big 4 day outdoor dj party next weekend, so once that's done I'm sure I'll start vibrating.
I now have my tent (got a new big one just for BM) and my digital camera. All I need is rebar, finish up a couple outfits and bike decs, and I'm ready. I made my list last week and was relieved to find that I mostly have everything already. A friend has hooked us up to make a mini zone in a village so I even have a place to live.
