Post here when you have been contacted by Placement and tell us where you were placed. That way, those of us who haven't heard from Placement yet can savor the anxiety!

Re: Has Your Camp Been Placed Yet ??
Well, the last email said they intended to contact every camp requesting placement " By The End Of This Week " . So we should hear something pretty soon - they can't email everybody at the same time. So far they are 10 days later than last year ( we heard on July 2nd last year ).

Re: Has Your Camp Been Placed Yet ??
I pushed through a wall of mind-frying anxiety over it last week and have arrived at a placid lake of inner calm. All this excitement, tension, hope, etc waiting for placement is a part of the ride... Burning Man is already fully underway. Also, this is pretty much the last moment before the train totally leaves the station and we are counting down days left vs the mountain of stuff left to get done. So I'm trying to savor it.

placement sent a mail on Friday, that placement would be 1 week from then, with an apology for how long it's taking.

What if eliminating placement of camps altogether is the new 'rite of passage'?

A whole lot of theme camps that the org relies on to add atmosphere and ambiance tot eh event would likely not bother going through the hassle and expense of dragging their theme camp out there with no guarantee of having a place to put it.clerkkent wrote:What if eliminating placement of camps altogether is the new 'rite of passage'?

Re: Has Your Camp Been Placed Yet ??
Yes, I can imagine that some fights would start. Very un-Burner. I have only seen two fights in 10 years, one was on Land-Grab Night in 2007. We had a corner (9:30/B?) and many hours later a group arrived and claimed they had reserved that corner. Nothing was on that area when we got there and it was open campng. There were more of them and they started yelling at us, pulled their vehicles into our camp. There was some pushing, we finally decided we did not want to get beat up before the event and pulled up camp and moved. We had to settle for a space around 9:40 and C as all the corners were gone by then. It was the first time in 8 years our camp had not had a corner. Land-Grab Night is one of the few times you see Douchebags in BRC.....illy dilly wrote:This is very true.CapSmashy wrote:A whole lot of theme camps that the org relies on to add atmosphere and ambiance tot eh event would likely not bother going through the hassle and expense of dragging their theme camp out there with no guarantee of having a place to put it.clerkkent wrote:What if eliminating placement of camps altogether is the new 'rite of passage'?

Re: Has Your Camp Been Placed Yet ??
We've had some real douche bags pull up and just start setting up camp in our reserved space. We go over to them and nicely explain that they are camping in reserved space and ask them to move if they give any objection or argument, we simply walk away and find a Ranger to deal with it. They always end up moving (and in one case I remember, being asked to leave the event) and we don't have to be the bad guys, nor risk life or limb because of some stupid asshole.

We too have had this same experience over the years.Almost always it occurs at night and when we wake up there they are.Almost always there is an argument on why they cannot stay since"there is room".Last year was particularly troublesome as large RV pullled in and claimed that since this was "4:30 and E"this must be their camp.As all addresses are aproximate they could not get it in their heads that their camp could be any one of 6-8 different spots. After some polite discourse it escalated to"What are you going to do about it?".We asked again for them to please go and find their proper camp. They then set off on foot, leaving the RV where it was,to"find their camp".Six hours later the driver still had not returned and our patience had reached the limit. Finally they agreed to go but not before more needless drama and somewhat heated exchanges. This year we are going to make sure our entire perimeter is roped off and hope that works. If not razor wire will be next step

I've made some "barriers" out of PVC pipe which are 2' high and 6' long. They are self supporting to "plug" small gaps between vehicles or other area which are potential unwanted access areas. They are pretty harmless, but provide the visual affect of a fence.

As the proud owner of about 500' of bright yellow hippy net and T stakes, I can vouch for the effectiveness of a good perimeter. We got promoted to Esplanade two years ago and had some serious concerns about the increased volume of traffic thru our camp. So we fenced it... all of it. When we went to bed at 4am we closed off the front side too and then reopened when we were ready again. Did we overkill it? Yes, I think we did and will probably not go quite as crazy this year. I will say we had minimal intrusion into our private camping area behind the lounge and only woke up with an uninvited couch sleeper in the lounge once. But, we don't even know our Placement yet...

I think placement on the Esplanade could warrant a fence.

All is quiet on the Placement world. I hate the wait. I've found in the past that many of the placers have real jobs so they tend to send stuff out after work and on weekends. It's been a long week. I'm hoping for this week end. My money's on an announcement on Friday and EA passes &Placement following all weekend.

Re: Has Your Camp Been Placed Yet ??
We had Esplanade last year- no fence. Fandango's a village so they just had camps set up along the perimeter (small camps up 3:30, a weird hardly associated wall of RV's along A, BRC Weekly and the Slow Burn Lounge on Esplanade), smaller personal campers stayed inside those, behind the lounge area. Almost zero problems. The few people who wandered back there were politely asked if they needed help from any of the people back there- it was rarely if ever completely empty.jkisha wrote:I think placement on the Esplanade could warrant a fence.
