Hello!
My name is Sofie and this year is my first burning man experience. I am 21 and an art major at UC Santa Cruz! I would love to hear any and all things to know about burning man!
I love making costumes and being creative. I am hoping to learn to build some type of structure to be used at burning man. My friend Aleyna and I are looking for a group to join, somewhere near Santa Cruz/San Francisco bay area if possible.
Cheers!

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!
Have questions? Read this first: http://www.burningman.com/first_timers/
Everybody on eplaya is always excited to help first timers; but in sympathy for some of us old timers, please get your required reading out of the way before posting. As hard as it is to rein in the the excitement and enthusiasm, and as unbelievable as it might seem, most of your questions have already been asked and answered, if you just take a moment to read.
Now, let the adventure begin!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Hi Sofie!
Check out the 2011 Theme Camps forum a few links under the "Introduce Yourself" forum (Cryptofishist has a nice thread at the top of 2011 Theme Camps that talks about how to join a theme camp successfully) and the Regionals link at the top of the main Burning Man website in order to join regional mailing lists.
NB: You don't need a group or big camp to attend any more than you would for camping in the woods (although it's certainly a different challenge). But a group can be a nice option, depending on how independent you are and what you're looking for.

Welcome to eplaya Sofie!
There are lots of folks from your area. It shouldn't be difficult to find folks to camp with.
Though, the idea of camping alone offers its own unique experience! Maybe give it a thought.

Hey there and welcome to the Eplaya. Lots and lots of very good advice on these boards.

Some bad advice too. And fun. With lots of people, some of whom have very different definitions of "fun" than you.tamarakay wrote:Hey there and welcome to the Eplaya. Lots and lots of very good advice on these boards.
