I noticed that thread too. I think it was because that person wasn't a theme camp that they got noise about it. Haven't they heard the saying, "great fences make great neighbors"?

Actually, if you aren't a placed camp, you cannot erect any sort of obvious perimeter until the gates open. Found this out first hand when I was laying out our non theme camp last year on Friday before gates open. Was "politely" informed that it was a big no no. Funny how our stuff subsequently ended up so scattered across a large area...

Heh. What you did was still better than what a certain camp did to my campmate and I in 2008. They were not in a theme area (we had a map) but had put up thin tape markers that blew away (nice MOOP) and expected us to understand their imaginary, invisible boundaries despite not scattering their vehicles or homes across the desired area, then popped up full of outrage once we started pounding stakes. It had been too early in the morning to just go pounding on doors, so we decided on a good faith choice. Then:

Guy: "You can't camp here!"
My campmate (confused): "What?"
Guy: "Did I STUTTER?"

(Followed by a dressing down). It was so unexpectedly rude that it took my breath away. I'm used to that sort of thing in the default world, but not in Black Rock City. Then again, if there's anything that results in strife there, boundaries are it.

We of course moved, because it was easy enough, and no one wants an angry neighbor anyway. (Some days later, he would calm down and serve us drinks).

We were beckoned 50 yards North by a sweet guy camping solo, who became like a brother to us (who invited us down the street and out of our shells during the 7 hour Monday dust storm, and swapped out my bike tube the next day faster than I could study it). And that's how I also met my very best playa friends to this day, who happened to be camped across the street from the new location, taken at first under great duress.

We expect to be placed on the Saturnian moon Titan... it's really cool there and lots of room.

This duress incident is one I do not approve of but am damn glad it moved you 50 yards closer to us and set in motion your connection with our camp.
I still have yet to develop the guts to do an interpretive dance of the first entrance of Savannah in to the Stag Camp group shade. Perhaps this year.

I'm bringing the champaign for it in either case.
