New Arrival to the USA and first time burner from Ireland!
New Arrival to the USA and first time burner from Ireland!
Hey all!
My name is Bríd and I moved to LA permanently 4 weeks ago. I came with a backpack, a passport, a credit card and nothing else planned or organised except that I would be going to Burning Man. It's been a lifelong dream of mine to go. I'm having a wonderful time here so far and know it's only going to get better as Burning Man approaches!
I've been reading up on the First Timers guide and have got lots of my things sorted already (including a bike that I have covered with model farm animals and fake grass).
It is lovely to meet you all and that you for having me in your community!

Re: New Arrival to the USA and first time burner from Irelan
My biggest issue is that, in typical European fashion, I do not know how to drive. I think I may be able to get a ride to the festival from friends but if not, is there a means through which I may be able to get a ride with someone from my area? In case the situation arises!

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!
Have questions? Read this first: http://www.burningman.com/first_timers/
Everybody on eplaya is always excited to help first timers; but in sympathy for some of us old timers, please get your required reading out of the way before posting. As hard as it is to rein in the the excitement and enthusiasm, and as unbelievable as it might seem, most of your questions have already been asked and answered, if you just take a moment to read.
Now, let the adventure begin!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

I thought the Irish quota was filled! Just kidding!
You'll find a ton of your compatriots on the playa...Irish Camp or something like that. I tend to stay away from them 'cause they make me get drunk and sing and shit...and dance...you do not want to see me dance!
Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.

Welcome - So glad you are going to BM - you are quite adventurous! Awesome to have you along!
Smile, who cares if you don't have all your teeth.

Agreed--when I think of what it would be like to do the reverse: fly to Ireland (or some other place across the pond) and buy a bunch of camping equipment in one day and just GO into the unknown--well, I'm always extra impressed by international burners who manage the trip, and do it well.
Nervy as hell!
