There IS joy in Hushville! YES!

Post by tafkar » Sat Jul 16, 2011 12:30 pm

After 10 years of community participation and engagement and stellar environmental ratings, Hushville has been denied placement this year.

Any other rag-tag Hushvillians on this thread? We can stride through the Playa and form our community without the prior placement of the BMORG!

What could be their rationale for denying placement? Could Kidsville be next?

The rational is that the camp didn't have enough interactive participation.

No, Kidsville won't be next, if for no other reason than BMORG has a vested interest in someone providing a safe environment for children attending the event.

Have you tried to file an appeal? I'm sending one in today for our camp, Chromazone/Farmopolis. I'm not sure if it'll do any good, but I figure it can't hurt. Part of our problem, (I believe, but have no way of knowing), was the lack of specific details about the camps within our village. Our village application was a little light, and this was my first year doing a camp application so I now see I could have (and should have) included way more specific information on our events and interactivity. I relied on the fact that we've been a placed camp (in different forms) for more than a decade with the exception of one year when we got the app in late, I won't make that mistake next year.

I wonder what other long time camps were denied this year...

Although I was not ever part of Hushville...

My sense is that it provided a superb landing spot for countless newbies. I would say that it's influence should not be measured on the classic 'interactivity' scale.

Shame on the org for not seeing this.

But then maybe I'm wrong.

The official word came down, we're too big to place.

Placement is trying to secure a smaller area for the displaced Hushers. Personally, I will be with the Booby Bar, they graciously took in my Wayward Home and crew.

However, I am working up a plan to implement next year, village placement as a group of theme camps. It certainly could work: Flounder Camp for the old timers, My Home, Taos, we could have a Hushpuppy camp for newbies, Nekkid Bunch, Backbone camp for the hard working volunteers... and so on. Just add our usual interactivity, kick it up a notch, and request group placement. Sure, we might get a street in between, but we'd be flexible. More structured, but still Hushville!

I'm glad to hear that the reason for this year's problem was probably the least offensive one possible.

That's inspired. Also, if there ends up being a street between two parts of Hushville, what could be more "you're truly visiting our kingdom" than one village coming at you from all sides, like Dorothy arriving in Munchkinland? . . . If I ran a village, I might find that a very amusing idea.

Re: There IS joy in Hushville! PLACED!

Post by AntiM » Thu Jul 21, 2011 5:50 pm

Hushville has been placed!

Anti M will still be with the Boobies, I'd not dream of abusing their love and generosity.
Good Afternoon,

I am pleased to announce that Hushville will be a placed
village in Black Rock City this year, 2011! I received
notification from Placement this afternoon. So you can
look it up on the map or get some cards printed - our
address is:

Hushville -- 5:00 and Divorce.

The village dimensions will be smaller than last year, but
we expected that, didn't we? They'll be about 300 feet by
400+ feet. It's going to be a tight fit, but we've got a
lot of good ideas for squeezing people in to the space
we've been alloted.

Ohio will be making an announcement shortly about people
who have theme camps or who would like specific placement
within the village. He is our Minister of Placement and
Perimeter.

I will updating the website (soon) with a map of the city
with Hushville on it. Which is the best news of the year
- Hushville is on the map! The village (you... yes, you)
pulled together, and our ideas and energy made it happen.
We'll talk more about the future and what we can do to
make Hushville better, but in the present - we're in Black
Rock City in 2011!

Dr. Popper

Good news indeed!
A plan is what you vary from.

Destiny Lounge 3D will be at Bradbury and 3:15 this year as a part of the 404: Village Not Found group of camps! Come see us!

Good news indeed! As big as BMOrg has become it is nice to learn that the bureaucracy will listen and eventually make the right decision.

Very glad to hear about Hushville, and sounds like a great plan for the future. There's a spot in the placement questionnaire where you can request who you'd like to camp near (or who you don't want to be near), they try to accommodate those requests whenever possible.

Yup, that's why they placed the Booby Bar right next to my camp in 2007!

The rest is history!

They bent over backwards to fit us in, the project and the big ass shade structure which holds all our tents (we have five residents this year). To go back on my word would cause heartbreak and anguish and be an act of bad faith on my part. I'd never go back on my Boobies!
