Under the Nature of Burning Man section, could the admins remove a duplicate thread from Allanon02 titled: Badger and others more info about the damage to the lake bed. One thread contains just his original posts and no replies, the other has several responses to it.
Just to clarify, I'm not asking for the discussion to be silenced, just toss the duplication of effort. Thanks.

LEOs at all levels apparently have a hard-on for online dragnets. In my East Coast town, the local 60-officer police department started an <i>Internet Crime Division</i> after attending a conference and deciding that they weren't doing enough against this scourge.Tancorix wrote: Look at it from the angle of protecting the ORG from any unwelcome LEO attention.
Boy, were they proud of themselves when they made their first arrest, a man who they said sent a photograph of a boner to an officer posing as a 13-year-old girl. The weird thing is that the man lived several hundred miles away and had no connection to our part of the world. Nor were the officers acting on suspicion that anything was going on in our community. Rather, they trolled chatrooms until they had hooked their mark.
The man was arrested when he drove several hours to get here for a tryst with the imagined girl, and arrested on a charge of distributing indecent material to a minor.
You've got to assume that they are lurking on eplaya as well, and not disciplined FBI or narcs, but ordinary, run-of-the-mill cops whose desire for a bust to justify their departments investment in training and hardware may outweigh their interest in day-to-day LEO functions, as well as their judgment about what is ultimately prosecutable.

Generator 4 sale (Onan, 120/240v, 25 amp AC)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a big, Onan RV gas-powered generator, model 6CCKB-3RV6000, 7821B. (engine = www.donhillmaninc.com/misc/aqx.pdf) I think that means it's a V6 engine with a GE turbine.
Generator is onboard a 1970 motorhome, most likely original equipment. It has worked relatively recently, but needs work. I have the phone number for the previous owner, if you want to ask him how it ran for him....
Overall specs: AC volts: 120 / 240; AC amps: 25; 60 cycles at 1800 RPM. It's a bigger generator than I need (I'm replacing with batteries + converter) but it could be the perfect thing for you, especially if you live in a remote place, for BM, or need some sort of backup during the (next?) energy crisis. Please feel free to email, or call 310 399 7021.
thanks

I have an issue with this thread and in particular the first post which I am including below.
Title: Did Marian sleep with Larry because she loved him...?
Or because that seemed like the easiest way to get a piece of Burning Man?
By the way, Marian is looking extra-skanky these days. She's gotten all puffy and old-looking. I wonder if that's a side effect of menopause. The weird thing is that when she was supposedly straight, and dating Larry, she looked like a dyke, and now that she's officially a lesbian, she's all femmed-up (though looking ten years older than she did just a couple of years ago). What's with that?
Next, here's a quick review of the eplaya TOS: Section 7, Subsection E:
The following is a partial list of the kind of Content that is illegal or prohibited on the Eplaya. Burning Man reserves the right to investigate and take appropriate legal action in its sole discretion against anyone who violates this provision, including without limitation, removing the offending post from the Service and terminating the membership of such violators, in connection with all available civil, criminal, and injunctive remedies. You agree not to use the Service to:
post, email, transmit or otherwise make available any Content that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortious, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable;
I consider this post to be harassing, hateful, and otherwise objectionable. The last time this type of posting surfaced was with Will Small Penis Roger, and it was the start of a shitstorm that we don't need with many of us about to leave for the playa or on our way there. Could the admins look into this and see if it's actionable? Maybe I'm going way out of line ranting like this but the last time this stuff got started it created a mess. I don't want to see a repeat.

I am glad, Tancorix, that you brought this to our attention, as it raises another questoin I've been pondering.
I reviewed the thread, and:
-It seems clear to me that this will most likely go down in flames, as all the WSPR threads did.
-Marian and Larry could not care less about anyone posting malicious stupidity like this; they have more important things, like putting on Burning Man, to worry about. They make a policy of not responding to silly attacks.
So as far that this thread goes, I do not feel admin action is necessary. Emily, care to chime in? I'm happy for another admin viewpoint.
But this brings up an intersteing issue. Now since we can't see eveything pn the eplaya, and we don't have the time, resources, or, really, inclinaiton to police the boards daily, we rely on y'all to report offenses. We do not usually take any action unless someone makes a complaint.
In the past, we will not take action re: personal attacks unless the attackee makes a complaint. This is because the folks invlved are members of the eplaya. In this case, the attackee is not a member of the eplaya and doe snot care, which is part of why I am letting it go.
But the question is: should the admins respond to personal attack complaints not generated by people involved? Posts against the Project leaders are a different territory...it's like attacking Bush or some other high-profile, arguably public domain-type person.
But posts against other eplayans...our policy, agin is to not get involved unless the attacker or the attackee asks us to.
What do you guys think?

TOS violation
I just deleted the "please help a beautiful virgin" posts in the Tickets forum for violating section 7e of the TOS, which states that posting information about illegal activities is an actionable offense.

the fine line of personal attacks
i agree that personal attacks are a very fine line. when someone reports one, it's often a "he-said-she-said" situation where it's hard to weigh in as an outside party -- especially to take action -- unless the terms of service have clearly been violated.
unless marian or larry want this one removed, i think we can just let it die the slow death it should die.

So...there's nothing the admins can do about personal attacks? Let's take a trip down memory lane and over to the Persons Getting Personal thread and Technopatra's response:
http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?t=4638
The statements above basically give WSPR and similar socks free reign to say almost anything and if a 3rd party complains the admins will do nothing? This guts the TOS. It's worthless. All the work put into it means squat.
I hope someone reviews these decisions....and gets the courage to enforce the rules with consistency. Maybe Panther was on to something with his latest rants after all. If this stands, then the eplaya is in for a wild ride, and this could be the beginning of the end. And by the way, the decision to not act totally sucks.
http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?t=4638
What's the difference here between an "attack" via sig line, and an "attack" via post? One violates the TOS and the other doesn't?Creating a consistent message bashing another member of this board is immature, vindictive, and a violation of both the Community Guidelines and the community spirit that they are meant to defend.
Worse still, it pegs you as someone with a narrow agenda for attacking another person, both within and without whatever context there is that inspired it.

I agree with Tanx! It's disrespectful of other peoples personal lives and unless it was Larry or Marian that revealed their personal lives or was made to be part of a public issue in the first place lets say a newpaper then the Admin shouldn't allowed to continue as it can be cause to involve Eplaya in a Libel Suit since real name and know personalities are being used. OK, Larry and Marian will not sue themselves but if it was another person or persons using real life names then it could be so.
Please put yourself in the same position. Would you like that kind of slander being said about you. I wouldn't. I'd be more then happy going after all parties involved.
A II Z
PS- I don't mind the Joya or the masturbation or other topics on adult issues being discussed because people can be told were the BMorg stands and a little castigation goes a long way in being clear that these are illegal activities and unless you want the whole law enforcement after you you should be discreet.

personal attacks are -- well -- personal
i think one of the differences for me is that it's not marian or larry asking us to take the post down. they're public figures in this situation and have certainly had their names dragged around plenty of times before.

Based on content of post, I'm thinking its wspr out for another round. (Goodness, this close to the event the trolls come out in force.) If so, I expect he'll lose it again and get thrown off. Should we bait him by pointing out he's dirivative?
I actually find it pretty offensive less in what he says aobut Marian, but in the screaming misogeny that what he says about Marian reveals. Oh well.

They might be used to having their names dragged through the mud, but on the ORG's own BBS? Sheesh. I feel this will be a very regrettable decision, if the TOS can't be enforced then this place will go back to what it was like before it was implemented and the admins were blasted with problems. Or in other words you just shot your own feet out from under you with this decision. Good luck Emily and TP.
Could someone link to a rendition of TAPS in honor of the TOS? If it can't be enforced, then it's worthless.

Well, of course this is WSPR/probably Rex again. Personally, I just find these threads unpleasant to have around at all. Yes, everyone who wants to bother is rallying around and flaming, but that just keeps the thread prominent.
To me, this kind thing is the BBS equivalent of graffitti - and not the cool artistic kind. I don't care whether or not Marian objects, I'd rather it was just gone. It's ugly in every way.

No Way. MYOB.
As an Aside K, I don't see you proclaiming the end of the eplaya, requesting user sanctions, or demanding that threads be deleted when the multitudes whip out the flame throweres wrt the current administration in washington. It's unsavory to have double standards.

Double standards? Nah, I don't see it that way. Politics and religion will always draw sparks...sheesh, 5000 years of recorded history are testimony to that. But this kind of personal attack involving sexual aspects strikes me as wrong. That's how I see this one and if you see it differently, then I guess we'll have to disagree. And there's nothing wrong with that.
