Exchange the world! (Exchanghibition on Indiegogo)

Did you enjoy the journey and the burn of the Fools Ark at Burning Man 2002 ?
Did you interact with the Grey Men at Burning Man 2003 and maybe even burned one yourself ?
Did you get harassed by our officers of the Department of Dreamland Security at Checkpoint Dreamyourtopia in 2008? But still managed to secure your Dreampassport stamped with the right visa to dream?

If you want to see me return with a project from Amsterdam to Burning Man in 2011 now is your chance to help make it happen. Just as with immigration procedures in 2008 this time we are going to bring something from the Default World to the Playa again. Only this time it's money!

Money at Burning Man?????? But is it really Money? Or are the banknotes with denomination Zero, One Million, and Infinite Art? The Playa presents an excellent ground to begin rethinking values. During that moneyless week in the desert the Exchanghibition Bank and its bankers will confront the participants and turn every transaction into an interaction, questioning the values of Art and Money, with a hopefully lasting impact in the Default World as well. Are you willing to sign our 'Spiritual-Karma-Laundering-Contract' in order to get rich?!

Unfortunately we do need real money to make it happen. As you can imagine printing the banknotes and printing the fabric and making the suits was pretty expensive, but also getting the exchange booth to Nevada from Amsterdam will cost money, so Yesterday we went live with our Indiegogo Fundraising Campaign : http://www.indiegogo.com/Exchanghibitio ... urning-Man

The very first Infinite Banknote was officially presented to Larry Harvey mid-June in the Magna Plaza Shopping Center in Amsterdam (more pics: http://blog.artasmoney.com/?p=240173 ), but now everybody will get the chance to own an Infinite Amount of Money........

And no worries that any money left will end up in greedy bankers' pockets. Next step after the Exchanghibition Bank will be to start working on filling a swimming pool with money - the Pool of Plenty. But that's another story...............

Please help by either spreading the word or by donating and as a reward getting the chance to turn yourself into a 'Millionaire' or even a 'Banker !

By the way; for those wondering why I used Indiegogo and not Kickstarter (because Kickstarter seems far more popular with the Burning crowd and seems to be more efficient) - I did that because as a foreigner I can't use Kickstarter. Just wanted to let you know because people are asking me questions about it

We really appreciate both people who exchange their money at the http://www.spendyourart.com site as well as those who donate on the Indiegogo page.
We really would love to concentrate on the creative part instead of the money, so do hope that enough people will donate, but as they say, the Universe always provides.
Sometimes in mysterious ways though.........

At the moment I am working on the 'Spiritual Karma Laundering Contract' which people will have to fill out to obtain a banknote.
I am busy painting the back of the contract: the Art of Turning Contracts into Art !

Thanks everyone - 40% of our monetary goal so far. I hope everybody understands that I have already put a lot of money in for printing the bills, making the suits etc and now will have to pay the shipping company as well.
And somehow I don't feel the bank should become so real that we'll go bankrupt, just as banks in real life.......

Reading the Spiritual Karma Laundering Contract posted above ( or on http://blog.artasmoney.com/?p=311863 ) is a first step in becoming associated in the Bank and being prepared for us

We're making headway on the fundraising AND on the mileage! The bank's credit rating was approved by U.S. customs, so the bank has now arrived at NIMBY in Oakland. Only approx 320 miles to go.......

1602 dollars to go. As true accountants we calculated that we are at 72.3% AND as research on fundraising shows: 'The projects lure a community. Most original funders are creators’ friends, family “and people who care about it. Strangers generally only begin donating after a project has at least 70 percent of its fundraising and a goal seems within reach.'

Our money and suits and ties and contracts have all arrived safely in San Francisco! One more step towards the Playa. And the fundraising page has almost reached 80% with 9 more days to go!

I work for artists who made two types of art using 10,000 in US$ and also in GB£. In the UK the bills were glued, cut, stapled, wired etc to form the art, and if ever these bills or parts thereof (must include the serial code) were taken to a Bank of England they would be exchanged for new notes. No such luck in the US, a method of fixing the $ bills in place had to be devised so no damage was done at all, bull clips and wiring was all that could be used, otherwise US customs said they would impound the art for being illegal.

I know that defacing money is considered illegal in a lot of countries, but the question of course remains is if making art out of money really counts as defacing or should be more seen as embellishing.........
