Burn out

Post by jbelson » Tue Aug 03, 2004 10:47 am

I work 10 hour days (spend a lot of time on the e-playa though), come home and work on my Burning Man projects. Hardly sit down to eat, and go to bed. Wake up and do the same thing over again.
I'm starting to get burnt out. All this work and I haven't used anything yet.
I have planned on doing Pavement's End II this weekend to give things a field test, but I almost dont want to go cause I know something will break or need to be worked on more.

Anyone else experiencing some burn out from working too damn much on thier projects?

I hear you! In my case its all the loose ends that need tying up...dozens of individual things that are mine to finish. I wish I had a good co-worker to do them with, that would make the time spent more enjoyable. On a plus side, my wind generator is almost finished, wahoo! Adrenalin will start kicking in these last weeks.

your wind generator sounds very cool.
i do hear you on the "too many ends" to rangle. as our camp has gotten very large and granular, it gets more complicated and i almost pay less attention to detail. almost a throwing of cards in the air and see where they land as for what gets left behind. (obvious things like food and water aside).

Yargh, I've dropped all projetcs except the Heads in the Clouds for the art bike, and my trinkets. The majority of the work on those was done far in advance or I'd be dropping that too. I'm physically and mentally wiped from surgery; my Larry is off trucking to earn the much needed income and days off (back the 28th of August!!!), and most of my dear friends I can lean on are out of town or swamped with their own projects. I'll have help when and where I need it, but I am so used to Larry picking up the slack that I'm lost without him.

The acquire and buy list is mucho short, thanks to overpreparation in previous years, but the sort, test and pack list is long. I'm stressing because there is so much I cannot do early by myself. Freaking out!!! I'm going to hit the mental burn out wall any second now!!!! I know from my excessive use of punctuation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stop me before I punctuate again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In past years I've worked so long and hard on building stuff and getting the camp and trucks and and and(!) ready that I almost had no enthusiasm to even go.
Really trying to keep things a little simpler this time... although I'm actually bringing MORE stuff...

I figured out that I can do all of the art projects and structural modifications that I had planned, providing that I spend the whole week fussing over things and eliminate sightseeing, interaction and participation. Time to do a Thoreau on my to-do list.......

I guess us n00bs have 1 thing going for us. We don't know what to expect so we're not gonna build anything huge and time consuming. Minimalizm Baby!

I've OD'd on Shrinky Dinks. I won't want to make any more for awhile after 62 + 38 to go.

Keep Up the Good Work

Keep working!
We love all the work you put into your Burning Man projects. Keep in mind that 99 percent of the people who see or experience your project will never get to tell you face to face how much they appreciate all your hard work and long nights you've put into your project -- but they (we) do appreciate it very much. YOUR hard work is what makes Burning Man so great year after year. We need to all keep working! :)
