Excellent question Stu. We do not chill our reds (like duh!). We keep them in the case until they're opened and have an icechest that is thin and tall that we keep outside in the shade with the top closed. That seems to work rather well. But one reason we have rarely had a problem with the reds getting warm is that once a bottle is opened, almost invariably it gets consumed immediately. Not always mind you, but often enough that we have not encountered a big problem. And I doubt this year will be any different, considering the number of lushes, uh, I mean wine aficionados that drop by BDC&WB.

I am missing how the thin cooler and the case of wine interact. Are you saying you have a way to serve them at around 70 or so?

I guess I am a bit finicky. I don't dig many reds if they get too warm (approaching 80s or more). I love my heavy reds but have not brought them to the playa because of a lack of temp control. Ya gots yer coolers that are too cool or your non-coolers that are too warm.

Well hell, what's the worse that could happen? Come by and have a glass of wine the way we do it and judge for yourself. If you think it's a piece of shit, spit it out. If you like it, I'll pour you another.

This can't possibly be a legit question. But in case DVDB is completely clueless, reds are your cabernet sauvignons (which is what we serve), merlots, petite sirahs, burgundies, zinfindels, and the like. Blush wines tend to be "white" zinfindels and roses. Your whites range from chardonnay to tyrolia. Anybody with a refined wine palette would tend to gravitate towards the reds. Let me guess DVDB, you like the whites?

Some how I was imagining some red like balls or liquid in a drink to the FX of a lava lamp.

got a friend into mersault and montrechet who would pop a vein if you told him people of discerning pallettes tended to prefer red. For me, the redder and heavier the better.

I will give your system a go. I may even drop a bottle off for test purposes ; )

We've been drinking a really nice 'white merlot' the past month or so. surprising how good it is for a lowly blush.

blyslv, and to think we're villagemates. The terms "really nice white merlot" and "surprising how good" are generally, in the vinokulture lexicon considered to be oxymoronic phrases. But why don't you and Eli bring over a bottle and let's together put this argument to rest.

I'm not surprised at the kneejerk reaction to the concept of "White Merlot." It's common amongst people of less refined taste and unsophsiticated palate. Dare I say you've been sampling too many goodies from the E-Z-Bake oven?

I'll bring it all right, and a blindfold.

Here's my RSVP - see you then!

You know, the worst is farmer wine from Malta. We opened the white first... it took about 2 years for me to be able to drink white wine again, just from the smell It was so sweet the we all gagged, poured it down the drain, and threw open the windows.

I still can't stomache any white unless it's very very dry....

i'd bring you some, but i won't even touch a bottle of that wine if i can help it.

RE: the Malta White wine.

The playa thanks you for leaving it at home. Radical self-expression is all well and good, but one must draw the line somewhere, musn't one?

i don't know about must... but then i also wouldn't classify bringing farmer wine from malta as a personal act of self expression. don't worry, i left it 7000 miles from here.

next time i'm there i'll get a bottle and bring it to the playa for you. might be a couple of years... with a sign that says 'open at your own risk.

Here's two of my favorites:

"But it's not seeeeeea salt! I must have seeeeeea salt!"

And

"This limes not riiiiiipe enough, bring me another."

For reason however I never get invited back to tee-kill-ya tastings.

Seeing as how we're all leaving for the event fairly soon, I thought I'd give this topic a bump.

Bumping Jezebel's bump.

We're looking at a "shower" before the wedding. possibly at medcamp (off 3 o'clock plaza) probably starting 4ish so you can stop by before the Meet'n'Greet. And see me in a tizzy. Maybe I'll make you read.

Oh poof! I miss all of you already!
