Re: Drivel meter is off the scale
People that "can't or don't" most probably shouldn't. (Shouldn't go to Burning Man, that is. They might as well find this out early in the game.)
I have no problem with this, but I believe it already exists in the form of stick posts. The problem is that people "can't or don't" look for it.

Yeah but if newcomers were willing to search, this place or Google, then none of this would be an issue. Since they can't, or don't, and there are problems with people angry at the constant stream of answered questions, that's why I think one area with all the usual questions linked to answers is worth considering.

Hey Simon,
AntiM might remember meeting me in 2009. In any case she knows I am not a 'sock' or 'Gyre'. Nor am I any sort of enemy. Where do you get this stuff?

Yo, Simon! I know Iggy personally!!!!! He isn't a sock or anyone else. He's him. A lovable, huggable him whom I adore and have missed here on eplaya for some time.
Forgive Simon, he is protective of me here on eplaya. Like my knight in ... um... well it ain't shining armor.
Now you two kiss and make out. I'll get the camera.

Re: Drivel meter is off the scale
My apologies Iggy.
I havent smokedmy meds yet, not that its an excuse, but antiM is right, my hackles are a bit raised because of recent events and i should be careful not to bite anyone for fear of ending up in the pound.
I was only sniffing and growling, i'll go back to laying in the corner, dreaming of dust.

One additional point to make regarding the attitude and perceived difficulty of this board.
If a newbie gets butthurt and annoyed over how they are treated on the board for doing something "dumb", how well are they going to deal with the environment out on the Playa?
You could look at learning how to get by on this board as being a "Rite of Passage" or even a good way to gauge the personality and adaptability of potential burners. I've seen many new burners accepted and welcomed as well as people who I hope will change their mind and not attend, or if they do attend, I hope never to meet them in BRC.

And better than being SUPPRESSED.

`Give your evidence,' the King repeated angrily, `or I'll have you executed, whether you're nervous or not.'
`I'm a poor man, your Majesty,' the Hatter began, in a trembling voice, "--and I hadn't begun my tea--not above a week or so--and what with the bread-and-butter getting so thin--and the twinkling of the tea--'
`The twinkling of the what?' said the King.
`It began with the tea,' the Hatter replied.
`Of course twinkling begins with a T!' said the King sharply. `Do you take me for a dunce? Go on!'
`I'm a poor man,' the Hatter went on, `and most things twinkled after that--only the March Hare said--'
`I didn't!' the March Hare interrupted in a great hurry.
`You did!' said the Hatter.
`I deny it!' said the March Hare.
`He denies it,' said the King: `leave out that part.'
`Well, at any rate, the Dormouse said--' the Hatter went on, looking anxiously round to see if he would deny it too: but the Dormouse denied nothing, being fast asleep.
`After that,' continued the Hatter, `I cut some more bread- and-butter--'
`But what did the Dormouse say?' one of the jury asked.
`That I can't remember,' said the Hatter.
`You MUST remember,' remarked the King, `or I'll have you executed.'
The miserable Hatter dropped his teacup and bread-and-butter, and went down on one knee. `I'm a poor man, your Majesty,' he began.
`You're a very poor speaker,' said the King.
Here one of the guinea-pigs cheered, and was immediately suppressed by the officers of the court. (As that is rather a hard word, I will just explain to you how it was done. They had a large canvas bag, which tied up at the mouth with strings: into this they slipped the guinea-pig, head first, and then sat upon it.)
`I'm glad I've seen that done,' thought Alice. `I've so often read in the newspapers, at the end of trials, "There was some attempts at applause, which was immediately suppressed by the officers of the court," and I never understood what it meant till now.'

MyDearFriend wrote:But, I am still seeing red about Kiro et all who cannot fucking LOOK for the FAQ thread,WTF is your problem
I'm not a new member that needs answers nor was I looking for them, which shows how well you comprehend things before launching a barrage of ignorant piss. I said it's not clear enough to new members where to get the answers - which is demonstrably true - and that we could do more to help them find those answers, which would alleviate the anger veterans feel when asked the same shit over and over. Whether or not you think virgins should find the thread themselves is irrelevant, they're not finding the answers often enough, so we can consider ways to improve that or we can let things get worse. It seems pointless to even mention that a 15 page thread is not an effective, user-friendly way to display questions and answers.
Belittling inexperience, as if no-one's ever made stupid mistakes planning for their first year, is bullying. This is all playa practice and if people don't like it then they shouldn't attend? More excuses from bullies trying to justify their shitty attitudes and behavior. You might say, like Jkisha, that new members should grow a backbone or fuck off, but isn't that the problem summed up right there? Radical rejection by an elitist few, who feel entitled to set the agenda. MODERATORS should be setting the agenda, and not giving a shit if someone is upset because their stupid trolling post was removed.
Jkisha, maybe you're right, I don't have the 'backbone' to enjoy this and should probably fuck off. I'm taking Eric's advice and building an FAQ that I'll host on my server, and will post the URL once it's ready. Since forum threads can move or vanish, it will all be hard coded text rather than links to eplaya. Hopefully it can lead to less virgins bugging you all, which will be good for you, and them.
