Hey everyone this will be my very first time attending with "The Lost Boys" camp and im very excited. I am offering to anyone and everyone i encounter this year a free polaroid shot. FREE!! My company name is Skwishy Ghost Productions and I'm from Eugene Oregon. I will also be photographing daily events and random artistic pieces. What's a Polaroid?

There must be some sort of joke along the lines of "hemorrhoids on an Alaskan bear".

I have a feeling that this thread may be taken down, but let me try to offer some explanation here.
That appears to be a commercial link here. As a new poster, there is some hesitation and suspicion to allow that. You are clearly not one of the spammers selling cheap drugs from Russia, but you may not quite understand the culture here.
The idea of a camera to take instant pictures is a great idea. You can use it as a cool way to interact all around the event and to get more involved with people. That's a perfect idea for a first timer. You can roam around the event and snap pictures of people with various art installations in the background.
Bartering is frowned upon, but I'm sure that once the interacting starts, you'll be getting some cool BM related trinkets for your very own. Your biggest gift will be the swarms of people wanting to get one of your cool snapshots. (who knows, you may get some hot, leather clad dominatrix to paddle your bare ass in public)

With all this said, you do appear on the up and up. I know you'll understand the whole culture better once you've had a chance to roam the playa for a short time.

My take is here you have a starving artist who is trying to do the art and make ends meet at the same time.

First of all Burning Man is all about the Art and your contribution will be great I am sure. In the past we have taken a small printer and we have taken pictures of people, printed a post card with the picture on it. Included a postage stamp so the post card could be mailed at the local Black Rock City post office. I think in '07 we did about 200 of these.

Hey Skwishy, as a fellow photographer (and a huge Polaroid fan) it's a great idea to NOT post a URL if a website is under construction, especially if it has typos. It's not likely people will return since their introduction to the site is something much less than what you want them to see. Books, gallery shows and other "real world" events work well with teasers and dates, but websites are best when kept quiet until they're finished. Then blast the hell out of it all over the place.

I'm new to BRC as well, but I've been reading and reading all I can about the psychology, customs and culture of Burning Man. If you're handing out Polaroids as gifts, that's beyond awesome.

Maybe you can take a Polaroid of me taking a photo with my cardboard 120 pinhole camera or something, or with the 360-degree, ripcord-powered panoramic camera.

However, if your website is to sell stuff then maybe consider something else. I think it's perfectly legit to post a link showing pictures and other work, but not OK to post a selling site. Also, make sure to read the stuff in the newcomer's guide about photography and video or stop by the friendly people at Media Mecca to ask about it.

I'd love to see some of the Polaroids either in person there or online after. I'm sure they'll be awesome.

thank you all for the concerns and such. yes it is my first year i have no idea what the hell to expect so im trying to do what i can to provide art for people. im converting my website into a gallery instead of a money business. hope to see u all out there. I have a cookie monster tattoo on my right side. look for me.
