if the wood is rotted and ooky, but still solid, I read about, and made, a good preservative/mold/insect/fungicide using boric acid and
propylene/ethylene glycol. you just spray it on, and it kills all the nasties.......safe for animals, rated toxicity of table salt (unless you use ethylene glycol antifreeze, then that's toxic to ingest).\

Edit for clariy:
it's toxic to insects and plants.

Stairs like custom built. Great. Now you don't have to get the Rapunzel hair extensions.

*awash in admiration *

there's even a railing for the stair .....

what a perfect palace, but it needs a flower or two ..... maybe a pot at the bottom of the steps?

The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

I still have to put some handles on the end and figure out the toy-in-the-hole setup, but it's damn comfy for long-term "activities".
