Any help with EL Wire sequencers?

Post by FlyBoy » Fri Aug 06, 2004 9:17 am

Last year a beautiful floating butterfly came by... and this year I'm hoping to join in and travel in groups. Any help on sources to sequence three wings of about 75 feet of EL Wire? Thanks

I am hardly an expert, maybe others can chime in. Any of the EL wire shops should be able to help answer questions if you call them. Here are some of the things to consider;

power source - depends on length of EL wire. Short lengths (maybe up to 20') can be battery powered. Longer lengths require 12v or 120v (over 100' is basically only available in 120v).

Minimum wire length - some invertors/sequencers have a minimum length that always must be hooked up to prevent damage. Make sure you are within this range.

hookup - The invertor/sequencer puts out AC, so polarity does not matter. There are 2 wires; the inner and an outer (outer is really small). You need to solder these two wires on 1 end to your invertor/sequencer. This takes some practice! Be careful to seal the ends or the AC will shock you if it gets wet or touches your skin.

this should get you started....

regards, Jafe

Sequencers

Thanks for your post. I'm looking at using a 12V Emergency Exit battery in a backpack, which would power each wing (about 75 feet of 2.3mm EL Wire each) X three. The sequencer needs to light each wing separately to give the illusion of wings in flight. : :roll: Top wing, Middle wing, bottom wing, middle wing, top wing and so on... How many days to BM?!?!

I can help you with that. The only 12v sequencer that I have will drive three channels of 30 feet each. I was a distributor and I have a bunch of wire available and the sequencer that you need. Contact me directly at [email protected] if you want.

Peace and Grace!
