Seal boy's story is hard to follow and my post won't be as exciting..but here goes.

Coolers: Make sure whatever you put in there is sealed. Extra water added lunch meats are not appealing and the cooler water...bleech.

If you're driving in rebar, have the safety cap ready to go for it. I drove the stakes, then went back to get the caps, got distracted and made a small slice on my foot thanks to the rebar.

Make a "flight bag" of common stuff you will need right away before setting up camp, like sunscreen. I couldn't find it so I set up camp anyway and I got sunburned good. A neighboring camp saw how red I was and I ended up with three beautiful women rubbing aloe vera all over me..so it didn't turn out so bad. Still it was embarassing, I knew better and should have prepared for it.

i learned a good lesson one of my first years about not having water at night after we had eaten some "fun guys".
i was so dehydrated, my mouth was DRY to the point of my top lip sticking to my teeth. i looked like the guy from EBN - Emergency Broadcast Network... it was our first burn and the black tape on the ave. signs were in full force. it took a while of hairlipping it through the streets till we found home.

funy in hind site, but water is sooo crucial out there. esspecially when your having 'fun'.

dont jump!

Dont jump off Art Cars while they are moving! This sounds stupid, but I saw some spectacular tumbles from this (including one of my own). Glowsticks flying every which way...

It may not seem like you are moving that fast, but with nothing to reference on the flat playa, you'd be wrong. The tragedgy that happened last year only re-enforces this issue.

After day 3 do NOT help yourself to the 5 gallon jar of maynonaise that's often seen on the playa.

Free? Yes. Safe? I don't think so.

This thread is awesome, exactly the kind of commentary I was looking for in terms of people's first time mistakes or even just mistakes in general. I'd much rather learn from others mistakes, seeing as this is my first time!
