Hello Kitty (Sanria) IS getting a cut. That pussy has raked in the dough for a very long time.

I've actually only seen the Hello Kitty one at Target...different demographic of costumers and such. I'm sure can call ahead of time and save yourself the trip though :/Drawingablank wrote: I have been starting to see this stuff all over the place and the lowest price I have found so far is 3.97 per roll at AC Moore ( marked as a special so can't lower that with a coupon). Most stores seem to be getting 5.00 a roll. They have a big selection, but no hello kitty.

We're thinking of buying a pretty unique pattern, and using it to mark our stuff around camp.

I love the pictures of the outfits you wore last year...I'm sure you have LOADS of wonderful garments but may be being a bit critical.

le sigh...I know what you mean...hell I wish I could buy some of your outfits cause I'm not really bringing any costume-y stuff other than the tutu I made and the Tron robe (and that is IF we get to finish the robe!!C.f.M. wrote:But they're all so LAST YEAR!lazerfox wrote:I love the pictures of the outfits you wore last year...I'm sure you have LOADS of wonderful garments but may be being a bit critical.

Oh Yes...how could I forget the skirts! One I've taken to wear on a normal day though...so does that make it not costume-y?? Heck the elven one is DEFINITELY costume-y...maybe I can be a fairy or something that day...C.f.M. wrote:And two skirts!

Being able to wear it on a "normal" day just makes it PUNC (Proven Useful 'N' Comfy) so BRING IT!lazerfox wrote:Oh Yes...how could I forget the skirts! I don't really differentiate between the two...my "costumes" are my normal clothes, my normal clothes are costumey and fun.
Re: Costume & Crafting Help
I spend most of my days at work and although I would TOTALLY wear my tutu I would probably be fired soon after

Re: Costume & Crafting Help
Hey.. I have a HUGE favor to ask someone out there.
We need a 3" x 37" strip of cream colored long hair shag fur for the girls costume, and can only find it by the $22/yard in full yard plus shipping. All we need is a strip of it. Does anybody have any extra out there that they would be willing to part with/trade for/etc etc?
Thought I would ask

Re: Costume & Crafting Help
Tonight I starting wiring up my canary yellow disco suit with el wire. It's my first time working with the stuff and I have to say it's pretty damn easy to work with. I was able to get all of the segments measured, cut, and soldered in about 45 minutes. If you're going to be doing a bunch of work with el wire, or just wiring small dc circuits in general I can't recommend these vice grip auto-adjusting strippers enough! They save a ton of time and are easily the best and easiest wire strippers I've ever owned!

Men making costumes and things to wear is so sexy.
Not as sexy as cooking and feeding me, or bringing me mead, but still.

Re: Costume & Crafting Help
ooooo very nice! I've been kicking myself to get a pair of good wire strippers for so long now. It seems like every week I'm installing a stereo or re-doing wiring on something or other, and it never occurs to me to get a pair until I'm contorted under a dashboard dripping in sweat stripping 374289623828734 wires..waxpraxis wrote:Tonight I starting wiring up my canary yellow disco suit with el wire. Re: Costume & Crafting Help
C.f.M. - thanks!
My wife was staring at me funny as she watched me whip stitch the first strand of el-wire into place. I'm not the best seam.. um, ster out there but the fact of the matter is that back in my misspent youth I spent a lot of time sewing on merit badges, repairing tents, etc.
Once I'm done with my suit I'm going to try to make some labyrinth shaped el wire fairy wings for her to attach to her camel bak - that should be fun!
junglesmacks - seriously, just get those things! I saw them featured in MAKE magazine a few years ago and today they are one of my favorite tools. Stripping all of the el wire segments and all of the speaker hook up wire took maybe a minute, max!

Re: Costume & Crafting Help
Speaking of attaching EL wire to fabric.. you used a "whip stitch"? I'm getting ready to have to attach 23 feet of the stuff to the girls outfit next week when it gets here. I've been mentally preparing myself for the best way to do it. Any help is appreciated..

Re: Costume & Crafting Help
Just your basic running stitch, like this (but over the el wire and then under into the fabric):

I added knots every inch or so just to make sure one busted seam didn't make the whole wire fall out. I also read through this instructable first - it has some great tips on how to get started.
http://www.instructables.com/id/how-to- ... r-garment/
I soldered each strand onto a nice long length of thin speaker wire first and now I'm just routing the speaker wire through the inside of the coat, pinning each piece into place, and sewing it down using a double strand of fishing line (I pull out a length of line as long as my arms, put the needle on then tie the ends together).

Any one know where I could get these somewhere other than Hong Kong?

Oh wait till you see the clearance...I've bought wedge heel fur playa boots for 14.99 last year. This year I've tried not to look
. Lucky thing the block at work won't let the pics post so I'm not as tempted.

"The positive place for girls?"
notsomuch.
Fairly standard stripper brands you can find cheaper on Ebay - esp. all their Leg Avenue costumes.
Similar store...Glam something....out of Florida, run by a burner (though she's since left to start an LED hoop company...).
Those shoes have to be crap, though. I've been looking for a couple of styles they have and their price is insanely cheap...

Re: Costume & Crafting Help
Oh I completely agree its cheap stripper crap but fun and as far as positive for girls well at my age I gave up being judged by what I wear but I certainly wouldn't want a teenage daughter wearing this stuff
whew I have boys !

Sock Dreams doesn't have capris made of lace, but they have lots of other pretty things if you are flexibly minded.

Btw, when you cut lace, it doesn't generally unravel (at least, not in my experience). It can be fun to cut up a lace garment to personalize it.

Thank you Savannah. I looked through their inventory and most of the light colored lace items are not wide enough to make them work for umm the thighsSavannah wrote:Sock Dreams doesn't have capris made of lace, but they have lots of other pretty things if you are flexibly minded.

I'm going to try one of the re-seller places that is for the younger crowd and see if I have any luck...I'll still order the one from Hong Kong just in case it makes it to me on time. I wish I ah shown the picture of what I would like to make to CFM much sooner instead of thinking there is no way to make it. Curses!!
