Will a Trikke work on the playa?

Post by nosambos » Thu Jul 28, 2011 7:50 pm

I have a trikke which I rarely use because getting this to go uphill in my neighborhood is a skill I haven't mastered. The flat playa may be just the ticket to use it to full advantage. It doesn't corner well on gravel and it would probably bog down in sand/ silt of any great depth. Is it worth bringing? Here a pic... http://www.trikke.com/st01/bodypowered.html

Playa dust is like phyllo (pastry) dough that's been baked to perfection. Rigid and flaky until it's been walked or ridden on, and then it ranges from soft sand to flour. You might be able to use that out on the open playa, but I suspect it would be useless if you run into any dunes or on the city streets.

Hopefully someone here has used (or at least tried) one of those things out there, and can give you better info. Good luck!

Unjohn used one for years. Maybe he'll chime in.

Seriously?
Wow!

I would expect them to be useless without larger wheels, except on the most perfect areas.
