Room for 1 in our RV - leaving from Reno
Room for 1 in our RV - leaving from Reno
Hey.
We've got five guys flying into Reno from (New York, Detroit and Vancouver) on Sunday the 28th. Staying at BMan until Monday. We've got room for one more. We're open to whomever. Age, gender, etc = irrelevant.
Not looking to do ride share. Only looking for people to split for RV costs.
Of the five of us, I'm the only one that's been to Burning Man before. I invited a bunch of people who don't know each other so you won't be joining a group of friends. Everyone is essentially a stranger to each other.
Here's the breakdown on costs per person:
RV rental/insurance - $525
($83 of which you get back if we don't break anything. That’s a big IF. Stuff gets broken. Don’t plan on getting this money back. Be pleasantly surprised if we do.)
Food/Water/Supplies – approx $150
Gas - approx $25
Garbage drop - approx $25
RV Park and cleanup - $10
Camp - $100 to 150 - Depends on which one we choose. Should be decided by the weekend.
So, you're looking at around $850 for everything.
It's a good group with people ranging 20-30s. All responsible, good people. We all hold solid day jobs, but know how to party as well.
Let me know if you're interested!

Re: Room for 1 in our RV - leaving from Reno
You left out generator usage. If you have to pay for it, figure on $3/hour. That may not sound like much, but the last five years or more we average around 80 hours for the week. I know that sounds like a lot (and it is) but if one person is uncomfortable and wants the A/C on, that gobbles up the time. Now being the pussies we are, running the generator up to 10 hours a day isn't unheard of. We wholly expect to lay out $240 or more for that alone. It's the hidden costs that will creep up on you. Plan accordingly.

Hi Wavey,
You might get a few good things from this "House Rules for RVs thread":
http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?t=34551
I keep hearing that more than 4 people in an RV is a lot, even if it claims to sleep 5 or 6, so . . . the ideas in that link might benefit your group a lot. I'm not an RVer myself, but if there's one thing I've taken to heart, it's "Save No. 2 for the portapotties."

@Dr. Pyro
Your wisdom is much appreciated. Will definitely take the generator into account as we are pussies too, and enjoy A/C! Many thanks for taking the time to reply.
@Savannah
What a great link. Thank you so much. It's official, #2s in port-a-potties!
Thanks!

Our "Sleeps 4-6" 19' Travel Trailer is perfect for SLEEPING two. Four would fit, but there'd definitely need to be some spoonin'.Savannah wrote: I keep hearing that more than 4 people in an RV is a lot, even if it claims to sleep 5 or 6, so . . . the ideas in that link might benefit your group a lot. Re: " Number 2"- WITH TWO PEOPLE ONLY, the toilet/shower is one of the best reasons to bring an RV, IMHO. The key is to be miserly with the water.
That said, we own our rig and have gained a feel for it's limitations. The No Toilet Rule is still excellent advice for 4-6 people in an RV, especially if they are not used to one. Any groups that are renting and plan on showering/pooing should definitely bring extra water and plan for the RV dump truck at somepoint mid-week.
Re: Room for 1 in our RV - leaving from Reno
It occurs to me that new RV users probably have no idea what a reasonable shower-length is. I sure wouldn't. I've used solar showers enough that I know how to get wet, stop the water, soap up, and then rinse, but is that also how careful one must be in an RV? (With the advantages over a solar shower being a better way of catching water, & not getting as cold 'cause you're indoors, etc?)
How many minutes does a smart RV shower last?

Depends on the reason <G>... a solar/military shower of a gallon or two is probably right. Not sure if our tanks are standard, but:Savannah wrote:How many minutes does a smart RV shower last?
Fresh water = 35 gal but I'll add 10 more during the week (goes to shower, toilet, kitchen/bathroom sinks)
Gray water storage= 30 gal (comes from shower and sinks)
Black water storage= 25 gal (comes from toilet)
Feel free to stop by anytime during the week. I'll give you a tour.
Maybe a CL "Burning Man Special" is in your future.

Now that I think about it, I guess they're not all that common outside this immediate (Reno) area.
Re: Room for 1 in our RV - leaving from Reno
Heh! This will be my 7th time tenting it. At this point, I enjoy my indelicacy.
But it would be fun to have an RV and paint it to look like a fever dream.

Ahh...but do your camp mates? As I said earlier, stop by for a visit- but take note of the windsock and please remain downwind. If you're really, really "indelicate", bring a warshcloth, towel and a gallon of water. I'll guard the door.Savannah wrote:Heh! This will be my 7th time tenting it. Just before we leave the house, we fill water balloons with tempra paint and have a tempra-ballon fight with the trailer. But it would be fun to have an RV and paint it to look like a fever dream.

I technically camp by myself. But it's not because of my hygiene.weather man wrote:Ahh...but do your camp mates? I am actually known for (occasionally mocked for) my absurd cleanliness on the playa. I have a shower and evap pond. Not that I don't treasure offers of showers--due to the gift of someone else dealing with my grey water, and for old time's sake. (I was not always savvy.)

Burning Man isn't about the stuff you see when you get there ....it's about the people that brought that stuff there
