Concerning what's not written about this in the survival guide and so on - what do they usually charge for the ice? We're doing our best to figure how to keep ice for a long time, but since it's the first full week for everyone in our camp, we have a very "best laid plans" attitude and figure our supplies will eventually dwindle. So how much dough should we bring for a refill?
Thanks to Addis, I had more free time.

Last year it was $2 a bag for either type. the more you open your coolers, the more ice you will need. Be sure to have a cooler wrangler or two; if someone is not paying attention it can move from mildly irritating warm drinks to dangerously underchilled fods quite rapidly. we bought ice as often as every other day depending on how many folks were digging in the coolers, and how many warm cans were added to be chilled. And we had to hide the "ice only" chest.

ice has been very readily available at Camp Artica at a very reasonable price. i restocked a few times. get there early in the morning unless you don't mind standing in a very long line.

although i cruised by there later in the dayand the line looked very interesting.
It was like this when I got here, honest.

Camp Arctica

Of course, you could look at it from the other side and volunteer to work Camp Arctica. It's the only job that's guaranteed to be several degrees cooler than the rest of the camp, day or night and just about everyone passes by. There are a few spots left when I last looked at the schedule.

The boy and I snatched a job pushing ice in the refrigerated trucks themselves. Wheeee!!! Coolth!!
...wondering if I should bring a parka...

Want some coolth? Email our Ice Queen.

in regards to the best time of day to do the ice run...

anyone recall what Arctica's hours are? We're coming from all the way up at 9:30, so dawn would be ideal.

First shift starts at 9am, so I suppose ice sales start then, or slightly after.
