I've got a 12 volt battery, a UPS battery, and several EL sequencers I'd like to drive off it.
The sequencers have a small port in the side that lets you supply voltage. 9V, 500 milliamps.
So the trick is, how do I drop the voltage off the battery to supply these units? I can solder, have a smattering of electrical theory. Just don't know the quick answer.

voltage drop
a voltage regulator
i think there is a regulator maybe an LM 7909 check on google they're easy to use (no load or external ckts) i think they'll handle 800 mA but don't quote me. bellboy

look in digikey
bellboy is right. you need a voltage regulator. if you go to www.digikey.com you can find everything, including data and spec sheets on all the parts which usually have a wiring diagram.
if you look for voltage regualtors, you can sort by voltage and current. they should cost about 50 cents to a dollar.

Cool. That's what I wanted to know.Bob A wrote:You may not need to drop the voltage. All the controllers I have for EL wire that have a nine volt plug or ask for 9 volts also work on 12. Infact some of them recomend using 8 AA batteries vs 1 9 volt. Check into this. They will be brighter with the 3 extra volts,
